Based on the advice of the Samurai, we bought a Staber over a year ago. My wife does about 10 loads a week (family of 5, kids & I play sports and have a lot of clothes to wash). So far: 1. It has been totally reliable. 2. It cleans clothes really well. It doesn't wear clothes out or damage them. 3. It uses a tiny amount of detergent. So far, very good. I totally recommend this washer. It does have some white deposits on the drum that I have to figure out how to remove. Doesn't seem to affect anything. I have no connection to Staber. I'm just still p&*sed about the Frigidaire front loader which gave us fits. Rob

Konichiwa, Rob, and mucho domos for the one-year later report! Glad that it was a good one, too.  Just to add my own perspective as a Staber dealer. In the year or so that I've been distributing the Staber washer, I've only had one that had some problems and I was impressed with how quickly Staber responded to make it right by overnighting the part right out to the customer and they were washing their skivvies again the next day. No hassles, no fuss, just done. Kewl. The Staber is a popular washer with folks who are into self-sufficient living or those who, for whatever reason, have chosen to live a simpler life off the grid. Some friends of ours who live in Vermont on almost 100 undeveloped, off-the grid acres use a Staber washer and love it; very reliable and easy on the solar-powered batteries. This illustrates a core principle about the happy Staber owner. You gotta be a do-it-yourselfer. The washer is designed to be serviceable by the owner and the company offers excellent, free service support to owners. Staber has made it easy for you to have a low energy, low water consuming washing machine in your remote living location and be able to maintain it yourself. If you're not a DIYer and expect to call for service, get a commercially available washer from your favorite appliance dealer. Some good ones are Whirlpool Duet, Miele, Asko and Fisher-Paykel.

Very intriguing. Thanks for the update. Kind of exciting that Staber designs their machines to be serviced by the owner.

Well I have had my Staber for over 3 years now, only a couple problems. and one was our fault. Unit was leaking water when spinning... after troubleshooting with Staber found the following... bad gasket on Plastic piece that sits on top of Stainless Hsg. Washer would spin up and spray water around gasket onto floor. other problem is our fault, you need to empty pockets, coins will slip between hatch and get sucked into pump. Then you have to disconnect drain hose and remove said coinage. The best way is to just tilt unit back and get it from underside. It's a PITA to take the curved front cover off and get it back on. Other than that, it's been a great washer, super skimpy on soap. Has anyone tried their dryers, I am moving soon and will need a gas dryer. Thanks -Henry

Staber washer report after over two years. This thing rocks. All the good stuff they say about reliability seem to be true. Family of 5 with lots of laundry. We use 4000 gallons of water a month, which is a lot less than without it. Clothes cleaned well and no washer damage. What sucks? There is a rubber waist gasket at the top where you load in the clothes. The back side of it gets slimy, even if you leave the lid open. It is easy, if messy to clean with 409 cleaner. The front panel used to be a bitch to get on. It has bent into shape. Worst thing that happened? Polyester underwear was thrown carelessly in and slipped in-between the revolving drum and the outer drum. It got stuck in the pump. Some water overflowed. My wife had unplugged the water-stop leak protection on the valves, which would have detected it, by accident. Solution? Pop front panel. Unhook intake hose from drum to pump. Remove undies. Reconnect. Also, I also had to remove coins that got stuck in the pump, as well, one time. I still don't like the cheesy plastic top, but, oh well.
