Side by side whirlpool refrig - one yr old. Has indoor ice maker and water dispenser. Still dispenses water but ice maker has stopped. Took ice maker in freezer out to check for frozen cubes but nothing there. Water line is not kinked in back of refrig. Infrared sensor light in freezer is still blinking. Any ideas? The model that you posted only has two water inlet valves one for the ice maker and one for the water through the door,if there is no water or ice in the ice mould then I would go to the back of the ref.and remove the water line going to icemaker and try blowing in it to see if it is blocked with ice if not then I would check the coil with a meter good luck post back cdwasher tying to help

open freezer door. hold the flapper down on the left hand optic board. the red light should stay on solid. if it doesnt then you need an optics kit(comes with emitter and receiver). if the optics are ok then very likely(common with these) the problem may be the the supply line to the icemaker has frozen. you were on the right track by removing the icemaker. on the freezer ceiling you'll se the black rubber tip of the water feed tube. theres a few ppl on here with tips on how to thaw them out(hairdryer). i do believe though there is a kit that you can order that includes a new water line and a heater wire that wraps around it to prevent it from freezing in the future

Let's start with the 2 most common offenders. As noted before - There is a black tube from the freezer ceiling to the ice maker fill funnel. Squeeze that. If it is hard and full of ice, it is frozen and blocking water. Thaw that sucker out with hot water in a squeeze bottle. Look at the ice maker. Note the postition of the ejector fingers. Are they pointed at your eyes (2 O'clock positon)? If not, the gear retainer has failed on the module, link to part is below: 961550 ![]() (Click to link to part) Icemaker control module kit with ice stripper & ejector arm. For In-Door Ice models. Just noticed picture is up-side-down... If not one of these two things, then we can work on by-passing the optic board and testing the rest of the Ice maker... Thanks for the manual! I am going thru it now. Seems to be the infrared panels.

Thanks for your help. You were right on. It seems to be the optics. I am getting 2 quick flashes, it does not stay on even jumping thru the hoops of trying to clean it and reset it. Guess I will have to replace it. Thanks again.

Thanks for your suggestions cdwasher. It seems to be a problem with the optics boards. Looks like I will have to order a kit to replace them. Thanks for taking the time to reply to the post.

Two short flashes followed by a pause, then repeating is a normal pattern. It indicates that the ice-making cycle has been interrupted, which it has - everytime you open the freezer door,,,

90% of all in-door ice boards that are replaced are good. Thanks for the reply. I tried unplugging the frig and even attempting to reset the ice maker as the instructions suggested. Still no ice. The 2 quick flashes continue. I even tried taping the flapper down. I am confused now.

1. Is there ice in the icemaker (and it hasn't ejected), or is it dry and empty? 2. At what position are the ejector fingers pointing? 3. Is the black tube from the ceiling to the icemaker hard and full of ice?

No ice in ice maker, it is dry. Ejector fingers are pointing toward the back of the freezer. (I took the whole thing out a few days ago to check for frozen ice.) Black tube is not hard or full of ice. Thanks.

The ejector fingers should be pointing to the 2 o'clock position from facing the front of the ice maker, if the head of the ice maker is facing to the left the fingers should be about pointing toward the front...

Check the large plastic gear on the module, it is held in place with 2 plastic prongs. If a prong is missing and/or the large white gear is not flush with the module, replace the module. If I sound redundant, it is because this is one of the most common failures: 961550 ![]() (Click to link to part) Last edited on Thu Jul 20th, 2006 10:48 am by Chat_in_RI ____________________ We, the unwilling, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful.
