my 1999 sub-zero 642/S started showing temp of 47 degrees in refrig only - (freezer works fine) - then wife mentioned that earlier today the soup in the refrig was half frozen - she forgot to mention it - shortly after i started to poke around the temp started falling to 30 degrees and still falling - "service" lite went on but no code after the "service" light - then "service" light went out - i unplugged refrig and plugged it in again to reboot the control panel, and apparently this worked because temp is now correct, but worried it will happen again (i replaced the control panel last year) - any ideas?

Was the service light blinking, if so the connection between the harness and the ref evap thermistor has probably gone bad. Replace both ref thermistors with the 4204150 kit

thanx for your reply - no, not blinking, and now that i've rebooted the control panel, everything is fine - until I buy $75.00 worth of filet mignon, and then it'll go bad again.

AccApp - you were right - well, we were both right - i went and bought a ton of frozen stuff at costco and tyhe service lite started blinking - so now as a complete and humble grasshopper i ask - where do i find the refrigerator thermistors so as to replace them?

May as well replace both ref thermistors while you are in there. To find them, remove all shelving above the crisper bin shelf (the door shelves can stay in). Remove the light diffuser by dropping down the clips which hold it in place (can be in front or in back, installs both ways) and sliding the light diffuser back and down. There will be three stainless phillips head screws, remove them and pull the top of the big white panel forward then pull it up and out. You will see the two thermistors, be sure and read the directions in the kit. While you're there, have a look at the frost pattern on the evaporator.

I have a subzero 680 (Less than 3 years old), the service light came on, and suddenly all the fruit in the refrigerator started to freeze. The temperature was 34 degrees. I raised the temperature to 36, and the freezing stopped but the service light is still blinking. What do you think this means? Thanks for your help!

Don't thank me until the light does not come back for a week. Was it also flashing "EC...XX"? They are very sophistcated computers, and they can be prone to false alarms.

2-Year full warranty, 5-year Parts and labor for both sealed systems, 12-year for sealed system parts. If the service light flashes in one of this age, it usually means excessive compressor run time. Don't wait for it to become a problem.
