Ok, I've read TONS of entries and can't find reference to this problem. It seems like such a little stupid problem that it's very irritating. Somehow the little latch that the door shuts into has been pushed into the lock position without the door being shut. Sooooo....I can's shut the door, it blocks the male part of the door. I need to flip the latch back into the female position, I can't figure out how to do this. I've tried taping the door shut and running through the spin cycle so it will then unlock, but nope. Any suggestions would be mucho appreciated. Thanks! Jam

Remove the panel beneath the door (2 or 3 screws). Reach up, there is a little "ring" beneath the door lock. Pull this down, it releases the mechanism. Last edited on Thu Jun 15th, 2006 06:13 pm by Mad Mac ____________________ Mad Mac....Pray to God he's out there....somewhere. |

Thanks, but I looked and can't see any screws to remove the panel. I'm including a photo of the problem area. Thanks. Jam Attachment: whirlpool.jpg (Downloaded 150 times)

Thanks a million for that manual! I found the piece, it's called the door lock and I removed it by removing the spring around the rubber seal and then reaching behind it and getting the screw removed door lock switch. It had broken and so I ordered a new one and will put that in and hopefully see. I'll let you know. Many many thanks for the prompt attention. Great site!

Like a pro! found a great shortcut to an easy repair. For future reference remember how to get into the bottom panel though. Inside on the right hand side is your tech sheet. Great for troubleshooting many items.

I had F/DL come up. I was not hearing the solenoid kick out. This should have told me there was a wiring or logic fault. Instead, I probed the lock hole with a screwdriver (primary redneck repair method), and tripped the lock to the locked position. It would not unlock. The release pull did nothing. So, off with the top cover and out with the switch/lock assembly. I carefully popped it apart (all the internal components nest in one half of the assembly) and slid the white lock switch plate over, then pressed the part with the large spring down, causing the lock to rotate back to its unlocked position. Reassemble the part, reinstall. While inside, make sure all wires and plugs are firmly attached. Labor: 2 hours, Parts: Nothing
