Scenario: Motor coupler broke. Unplugged the washer and raised it up on automotive jack stands. Pried off clips to loosen water pump. Removed screws and clips to loosen motor. Removed three bolts that hold the gearbox assembly to the stuff above it. This allowed it to drop down and twist so I could easily remove the pump and motor. Removed old coupler and replaced w/new. Re-installed motor and water pump. Then, I was unable to raise the gearbox assembly back high enough to re-thread the three bolts. It's about half an inch too low for the bolts to thread.

Q: What is needed to raise / re-position the gearbox assembly so the three bolts can be re-threaded?

Daym!! Why you do that for, here is how to replace the coupler...you will need to rotate the lever on the top of the clutch to get it all of the way up before you can get the tranny bolted in..in your washer...

OOooooh, yeah, it is a washer after all.

btw, Any advice on rotating the lever on top of the clutch of my washer? Lying on my back I can't see much up there, even w/mirror and flashlight. What am I feeling around for and how does it work? Thanks so much.

First off I want you post some pictures of this dryer with a coupler and a water pump!!!!

Just messin with ya......try turning the clutch assembly one way or the other to allow it (spring in side it) to clear the drive cam (white plastic piece on the bottom of spin tube) should let it go up and in then. Also you did take the bolt out of the agitator befor dropping the transmission didn't ya? check back...good luck.........

Going to have to move the white lever around the other side of the spring, just have to go by feel I suppose in your position..

Yeah, it's a washer. I was so fired up about getting some expert help I made a fool of myself with the dryer bit.

No, I didn't remove the bolt from the agitator before dropping the gearbox.

The problem is that the spin tube/brake assembly has dropped down from the weight of the transmission and motor assembly dropping when you unbolted it.

You need to start over and do this right.

You're going to have to remove the cabinet to work on it correctly, then remove the agitator, take the pump and motor off the transmission again and remove the transmission.

After you have removed the transmission you can turn the brake release cam lever by hand and push the spin tube/brake assembly all the way back up into place where it should be.

Then put it all back together, make sure when you install the transmission the white brake release cam is on the opposite side of the clutch spring.

I am in the same situaton that the orignal poster is in. I am having a hard time understanding how this half inch gets made up. (I originally thought the clutch was bad)I have taken off the agitator, but now there is this specialized looking nut. Are there any recommendations for getting that off? Do I even need to?

Everything is off the machine except for the brake assembly what would be the best piece of advice to reattaching the clutch and gearbox assemblies?

Yes as a matter of fact I have re-read it several times and at no point does it discuss exactly how the half inch is made up. other than "doing it correctly".

Albiet slightly helpful the statement remains ambigous.

bentslightly......with the trans. removed.turn the white cam piece on the bottom of the spin tube Cw ( i think) any way turn and it will engage and pull together.then push it up the xtra 1/2 inch to allow easy re-installation.hope this helps.good luck check back........

See the above BOLD part of post, pretty much same as Poobah just told you. So, HMMMM, maybe it was you that wasn't reading the advice giving????
