My Whirlpool Calypso washer (model #gvw9959kl2) is refusing to drain, and while doing a spin cycle will spin, but will not drain the water. It gives the code OB (off balance) 80% of the time and LD (long drain) the rest.

I removed the back panel, and can see that there's quite a lot of water in the tub (though just about none visible inside the washer itself), though I can't flip it on it's side to check for clogs or the like.

Any suggestions to at least drain so I can figure out if there's a specific clog or broken pump?

flip the front of the machine up,remove the bottom cover,and locate the drain pump which is evident by the 2 hoses leading to it(r/h side of machine- within the pump,yoy are sure to find some ghastly goodies.

Well, the pump is completely clean and I removed the clog that I found in the outlet line, but the washer is still appearing to do nothing at certain stages and water appears to be remaining in the unit (though I'm not entirely certain at this point).

For example, I set it to extended spin which is an 8 minute cycle. It starts up a couple of times, then at the 6 minute mark stops doing anything and after a while flashes the ominous LD warning.

Does this sound indicative of the pump motor failing? The agitator seems to be working fine, but water just isn't exiting despite the clog being gone.

I just received the manual and pump/motor combo from RepairClinic.com, and lo and behold the motor was the culprit!

Thank you people - Stripped my Calypso down as discussed and found all kinds of nasty gook stuck inside the drain housing including the remains of two wires from a bra that were caked with lint and other nasties. After a few moments of choice expletives, I was able to jerk these items out.

One of the wires was in the bottom section, lodged half way into another hose and it appears to have trapped a little ball (I am assuming some kind of check ball) to the bottom of the housing. I am guessing that is was causing the LD error.

At any rate, after cleaning it out best I could, I put it all back together with a minimal of spare parts left over (unlike cars I attempt to work on) and pushed the ole go button and lo and behold, it's been through 5 loads now without flashing the LD error.

You guys saved me some cash on the repair guy and I am grateful. Kudos folks!

Not to dredge up old threads along with the gunk in my pump but this has been a huge help so far. I've done the above but I keep flooding the laundry room because one of the hoses pops off the pump. Am I just being a lame n00b getting the clamps on correctly, or would it be better if I replaced the spring-type thumb clamps with screw-type hose clamps? I use those on my aquarium setup and there's no leaks there so far.
