Hi, I was hoping someone here could help me with my squeaky washing machine. I have a Maytag SAV4655EWW washing machine that is making a loud noise while agitating. Is this the belt, a bearing, or other? I am mechanically inclined, but I've never worked on a washing machine. FWIW, the machine is still under a parts warranty - no labor, though. Thanks. Thanks for the reply, Samurai! I have attached a photo of the insides. I have circled the part that I believe is causing the squeak. The belt seems to be running at a fairly high RPM, and it seems to be noise free. The squeak occurs when the part I noted above rotates a fraction of a revolution. It only moves (and squeaks!) approximately twice a second. By the way, I re-leveled it a couple times to no avail. Thanks so much. Attachment: squeakypart.jpg (Downloaded 86 times)

I believe what you are hearing are dry brake pads. If you rotate your trans pulley up and look at the gap it creates, you will notice you have three brake pads. They should have a film of clear silicone grease on them. You can rotate the pulley up and get a Q-Tip in there with grease on it to lubricate them. what you hear is the squeaking each time your transmission index's at the end of the agitator stroke.

Thank you so much, Trying to help. I followed your recommendation to grease the brakes, and it now seems to be running squeak-free! This is an excellent forum, and I feel bad that I have taken without giving. With that said, I hope that it is quite some time before I have to check back for my next repair... Hi, I have a Maytag model SAV405DEWW and I believe I have this exact problem. Is this clear silicone grease special stuff or can I buy it at the hardware store? I want to try to apply some on mine but I only have dark colored tubs of grease (lithium I think). Thanks, Walter
