Model# GLRS267ZA (manufactured 2/02) side by side, with ice maker/water dispenser in door. Bought new 8/02 (no extended warranty) Problem: It started when my husband left a can of coke in the freezer. I discovered it the next morning and immediately cleaned the mess in the freezer. Then when I would shut the freezer door, the dispenser lights go on and you could hear the ice bin auger turn, hearing some ice go in the shoot then stop. I opened the freezer door, and saw the ice sitting in the shoot. Shut the door again, same thing happens. I hit the paddle to release the ice since it is piling up in the shoot. This was going on for a while and we decided to disconnect the dispenser. Later we reconnected the dispenser to see what would happen, now it won't stop dispensing. Totally out of control. So it is again disconnected. Please note that the ice maker works fine, it's only the door dispenser that's acting goofy. I have had to take ice out of the bin manually. I called Frigidaire, and CS told me that my problem was not in their database, so I would need to call a repair person. My theory is the issue is the PC board. But this model has two of them. One white, the other green. But since I base this theory on nothing, I need you expert advice. If I do need to get a replacement board, which one? Each board is around $100. Thanks for your help! Cindy

It sounds as though the micro switch controlling the dispenser is stuck in the 'closed' or on position, probably from the exploding Coke can - that stuff is pretty gummy. First get yourself an ohm meter or multimeter for testing purposes. Remove the hinge cap on the freezer door and disconnect the harness if you haven't already done that. Remove the drip tray from the dispenser area and you should see a couple of screws holding the frame on the freezer door. Carefully remove the frame from the door face because there is a ribbon connector attached to it. You can either disconnect the ribbon or have someone hold it out of the way for you. You should now have a fair view of the dispenser paddles. One controls the water and the other the ice dispenser. The micro switch for the ice dispenser has a brown and slate coloured wire connected to it. Remove at least one of these wires and test the switch with an ohm meter - you should have an open circuit when the paddle is not being pressed, if not then the switch is stuck. You could also visually inspect the switch to see if the button will push in and out. If the switch is ok than you could have a bad relay board, but I would check the switch out first, hope this helps good luck.

The Tiger is wise. I have seen this exact problem twice. Once it was the board on the faceplate, once it was the relay board mounted with the levers and switches. The one in front is easy to replace, the other is a bit more work. If you get your parts from the link our host provides, I believe you can order both boards and return the one you didn't need. It's an odd design. The added relay board seems pointless, it doesn't do anything that the previous(no relay board) models didn't do. Now there is an extra $100 part to fail. Nick I don't think the coke can caused this, most likely just a coincidence.

Service bulletin: Servicers were asked to change the Control Board in the Dispenser any time they service a New Generation SXS Refrigerator with Serial # before LA14799999, (Only if not previously replaced). This can be identified by a # 1 marked by a permanent marker, under the drip tray in the bottom of the dispenser. Some Servicers are replacing both the Power Board and the Control Board adding cost to repairs. Solution: Only Change the Control Board. Refer to your model. See note! The problem with the Control Board is the Dispenser Lights operate erratically. The Power Board only needs to be replaced if you do not have power to the Dispenser, it doesn’t operate, or the lights are not on.

Thank you all so much! I'm glad that this website provides the customer service that Frigidaire seems to seriously lack. Will order the control board today. You are all very wise.

Here is an update on my problem that I posted March 5th. I ordered the control board Sunday night, and got it yesterday. Husband installed it and it works perfectly! It's great to have my despenser and water back! Thank you all (and waves to Pegi) for your help! Cindy
