My sub zero refr. model 650 is requesting service and displaying "EC 06". The compressor is also running. I can't afford another costly repair (it's already had the thermostat replaced and ice maker broke) on this relatively new - yet out of warranty- appliace (2002). Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.

Check your warranty, we do not do Sub-Zero however think I have read there might be 10 years, give or take, on the sealed system....others in here can confirm that. Look at the warranty in your owners manual, should be in there.

This is what I found on the 650 on the Sub-Zero site. FULL FIVE YEAR SEALED SYSTEM WARRANTY For five years from the date of original installation, your Sub-Zero warranty covers all parts and labor to repair or replace any components that prove to be defective in materials or workmanship in the sealed system. The sealed system consists of the compressor, condenser, evaporator, drier and all connecting tubing. FULL TWO YEAR WARRANTY* LIMITED SIXTH THROUGH TWELFTH YEAR SEALED SYSTEM WARRANTY Here is the link to the site...beautiful frig. by the way.... http://www.subzerowolf.com/subzero/subzero.php?model=650

NOTE: If a refrigerator evaporator thermistor is faulty, the refrigerator compressor is not energized until compartmentair temperature exceeds high offset by 5°F (3°C). SERVICE flashes and Error Code 06 is logged.

You might want to cut the power to the frig and then power it back up to re-boot the control board to see if the error comes back....

Thanks for posting those error codes, Pegi. That's one to stash away.

Our Sub-Zero 650 got a Service message last night with an EC 21 code. The fridge temperature was in the sixties. We vacuumed the condenser. It made no difference. We phoned Sub-Zero at 1-800-222-7820. It was 10pm on a weeknight Pacific Time but someone answered. He said to clean the condenser with a fridge cleaning brush before vacuuming it, and then to vacuum the entire compartment. We did and the Service and EC messages disappeared. (Note: Clean the silver grille with vertical strokes only, to avoid bending the fins). Seven hours later, the fridge temperature was only down to 48--still too warm. We called Sub-Zero repair again. They scheduled a same-day appointment. They replaced three worn-out parts, including a heat exchanger manifold of an old design involving several welded pieces. They installed a new, single-piece manifold that they expect will hold up much longer. The temperature quickly dropped to 38. The unit was three years old--within warrantee--so there was no charge. Happiness.
