Yesterday my Admiral Designer Series Freezer, model HMG19149 started making a very loud "buzzing" sound; I tracked it to the fan, located on the back wall of the freezer in a small compartment (that I am not sure how to get to);

I noticed also that back wall of freezer coated with ice - This is "supposed" to be a "Frost-Free" appliance, so something is definitely wrong.

I tried unplugging - thinking that maybe the fan blade is hitting ice inside the fan and that is what's causing the racket, but when I plugged it back in this morning I found that it is still sounding as though it's about to go into orbit.

I am not even sure what to look for, or how to address, but I am afraid the motor might burn out if I don't do something :(

Please advise, and thanks so much in advance for any thoughts on how to handle this.

You've had a defrosting system failure. You'll need to tear apart your freezer and use a multi-meter to make some electrical tests. Ready to rock?

I really appreciate that - I did manage to take off the back wall of the freezer and sure enough, several inches of ice had built up not only in the fan, but all along the wall and sides. (!)
I scraped and melted all of the ice, and put the freezer back together.

So, now my fridge is cooling 100% better, making NO "motorboat" noises, and I am breathing a big sigh of relief... BUT... Since I put everything back together, the "arm" on my ice maker keeps getting stuck in the OFF position, after making only one round of ice. The arm is sticking and very hard to move; Is there something safe to apply to this part as a lubricant, to keep it moving smoothly?

Many thanks again for the advice!

Brandee

The ice maker is the least of your problems-- you haven't fix the original problem and the evaporator gonna ice up again a few days. You awwta tear that freezer apart again and test that defrost thermostat with your multimeter. Or look to see if it's puffed out and deformed.
