My washer is approximately 4 years old and It just broke down on me when i was washing a load. LSR7233DQ0 is the model number of the whirlpool. I have taken it apart but i dont know what i am looking for. When i put the machine in spin it just Makes a noise like its trying to spin. I believe its either the belt or the motor but im not too sure. I spent nearly 4 hours just taking the machine apart now i dont know what to do. can anyone please help me. Thanks!

Probably just a bad lid switch. Details here.

Lots of wear evident on that drive coupler; you should replace it, too.

Hmm, not good. Could be a badly worn coupler that's binding the motor. Take the cabinet off as explained in the links I sent you, jumper out the outer two wires of the lid switch harness and run the washer to locate the source of the noise you're hearing in the spin cycle.

That is definitely the sound of a worn out coupler. Piece of pie! A single mug on the SUDs-o-Meter.

While you're in fixing this you should be replacing the pump also before it ruins the front motor bearings. There are deffinite signs of leakage from the pump seal in your pictures.
Here's the pump you need: CLICK HEREto order
And the drive coupling: CLICK HERE to order

Removing the pump from the motor is impossible. I have removed the clips but when you look closely there is a screw of some sort connecting the pump to the motor. Do i have to remove the pump or can i just remove the whole motor which is attached to the pump?

Never seen any direct drive pump attached with a screw unless it is an aftermarket pump, OEM pumps are held on only with the two clamps, if it will not pull off the pump bearings are stuck to the shaft of the motor because of rust swelling the motor shaft, this happens when the pump has been leaking for months. About down to smashing the pump off and hope you can sand the motor shaft back to close to normal so it will accept a new pump.

Assuming there are no screws holding it, there are 2 shipping screws holding the two clips that hold the motor on, are these what you are seeing? If the pump does not pull off we have had to smash them off with sharp tools and big hammer. It is leaking anyway, do not see why you would not want to change it? If you cannot get the pump off or of the motor shaft is too damaged to install a new pump you will be replacing the pump and motor both. If you want to leave the leaking pump on the washer just remove the pump and motor together as one unit to get to the coupler.

While trying to remove the pump i guess it cracked somewhere and now its leaking. The machine now rotates but now it leaks.

It was already leaking, had been for months or years, going to have to smash it off and replace it now.

Jon, don't get discouraged and give up. I know right now it seems like a whole can of worms, but you're fixing long-standing problems with this washer and it is basically a very good machine, one of the best top-loaders made today, in my less-than-humble opinion. Persevere and ye shall overcome!

Yes, the Master is correct, this is about the best washer on the market and will be worth the effort.

You need to remove the cabinet from the washer and run it that way in an attempt to locate the source of the smell and/or smoke.

Jon, from your very first picture it is real obvious what is burning.....
You have destroyed that new pump you installed, (or if the old pump when you tried to take it off you didn't get it back into place when you put things back together). You didn't get the four pump foot pegs mounted into the four little round indentions in the motor or if you did you didn't install the pump clips to keep the pump in place and the pump spun around and the mounting post/legs of the pump have been chewed off from entering into the running motor, thus your burning/melted plastic smell.
Actually on second look at more of your pictures that does appear to be your old orignal pump that was leaking that you couldn't get off and the damage may have been done when you tried to remove the pump. Regardless, now you for sure need to replace that pump.

Use it if you want to take a chance of flooding your house with 28 gallons of water, if the plastic melts thru on the end. of the pump.

Good advice for our "Lurker", Pegi...... It actually looks like the bottom corner of the front of his pump is already almost cracked all the way through already.
I'm really surprised it isn't already pouring water out.

I was not there when it started to burn but my brother said it was most likely the motor because it didnt basket did not turn when it was on. When i plugged it back in it worked perfect but the pump was dripping like crazy.

Most likely the legs of the pump were jammed down in the fan on the motor, (motor jammed, won't start, starts to smell as it burns up).

THANKS SO MUCH. We have spent the last 2 weeks trying to find a new washer. We knew the spin part was the reason it wouldn't work, but my husband didn't see any way to get the machine apart. The diagram did the trick. Actually we needed the washer fixed yesterday, so the local parts guy didn't have it in, so he told him how to re-wire it without the part and now it works fine. The only thing is that if you open the lid, it doesn't stop spinning, so its not as safe, but we can live with that for now.
Thanks again for sharing. Now its on to the refrigerator repair. It leaks.
Praise the Lord Jesus for always helping us where we need it!
