Not sure if it is the thermostat or not. Temp is 42 degrees and dial set all the way up. Freezer is thawing slowly, dial set the same as fridge side. Compressor is working. You helped me fixed my own refrig. now my mother needs help, I her little repair woman. Thanks for your help.

look at the bottom of the back wall in the freezer, there are slots there, are those slots full of frost, or are they clear?

No, there is no frost there. The back is dry. Mind you I am getting information from my mother over the phone. I was there and did not hear the compressor, but she called me later and and put the phone up to the Freezer side andI did hear what sounded like a motor running. Thank you for your help.

Sounds like a sealed system problem. Would need to see the coils behind that freezer panel to be sure. Can take a photo and post it here so we can see it.
