I was getting ready to replace the tub seal and mount (leak around transmission) on my dependable 25year old Maytag washer. The agitator screw head broke off. Now what? I can't get the agitator off to start the project. No room in the tub for power tool. HELP!!

long chisel and a hammer, bust plastic agitator to pieces till it comes off, then start visiting local shops to buy a used one older maytags only have 2, you count the vertical slots on the agitator, they have either 3 or 4 sharpen that chisel, with a 25 year old one, you might be needing it again yet btw, you do know that below that agitator you are going to encounter parts that require a specialised spanner wrench to remove and reinstall them? thats the true reliable maytag design, if the tubs not rotten when you get the seals off its well worth the parts if you can do the work yourself Last edited on Thu Nov 18th, 2010 04:50 am by BrntToast ____________________ The only stupid question is the one not asked hope i've been helpfull, if you wish to buy Brnt beer kick here http://brnttoast.googlepages.com/home feel free to prvt msg frigidaire questions my way (i dont log in every day) |

GOT IT OFF!! used an awl to widen the opening, then was able to break off the screw and yanked off the agitator. i don't know that purpose for the screw though. The agitator stays on (grooves in spindle hole it in place).....i can't imagine that the agitator would float. Saved me from buying another agitator. but now i have a different problem... tub won't spin. I will now post another thread.
