I just purchased a used Neptune washer. It was untested by the seller as it came with his new house and he just replaced it with his machine. (so the story goes) Anyway, I got it home and hooked it all up and my day spiraled down from there. 1st. Would not run unless I held in the start button. It eventually started to fill after a few times. The door was very slow to lock. 2nd. Machine over filled and started to leak. I was grabbing towels and buckets and then finally switched the machine to spin. The water stopped pouring out as the machine drained. 3rd. It stayed in a perpetual rinse/spin cycle. I shut off the water in hopes of just removing what was left. Eventually, it would no longer spin in any cycle. Conclusion: The cycle/timer dial never seemed to move. I open the back panel and nothing was obviously wrong. Current status is back to the beginning. Water starts to fill right away but shuts off as soon as the button is released. There is also an "electronic" melting smell present. Thanks for any suggestions, Scott

Thanks for the suggestion. There is a brown color at the base of several green (resistors?) at the top of the board. I found one fuse which looked OK. Anything else?![]()

That discoloration is normal. If something was burned, it would be unmistakably black. Is that fuse open? Run the basic motor function test==> http://fixitnow.com/wp/2010/08/15/basic-motor-function-test-for-early-model-maytag-neptune-washers/ If it fails that, you'll need the new motor and control board kit==> http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Motor-and-Control-Module/949491

The fuse looked intact to me. I will run the test this weekend. Thanks for the suggestion.
