Well, folks, I have another question. I had asked if anyone could help with a persistant, annoying electronic chrip from our bottom freezer Profile fridge, and that didn't produce any ideas, but now I have what should be a simpler problem to solve: When the temp. readouts went dark, the chripping stopped, as well. Then, after a week, the readouts magically came back on, and a few days latter, the chripping came back. (the noise comes from the readout area- same as the open door alarm). I should add that the temp. control seemed fine throughout all this. I had tried replacing the main control board when the readouts were dead, with no results. Sometimes the chripping is silent, sometimes it drives me crazy. There doesn't appear to be any connection with the compressor running, etc. So, can someone tell me how to go about replacing the readout board? I don't see any obvious screws to remove to get to it, and I don't want to break the plastic cover by trying to get it off. GE will give me a break on buying the board, but they won't just send me one- the warrantee is now over. I don't think ponying up for a service call will guarentee success, since it is a random, on again off again problem. Thanks!

it sounds to me like the door switch is acting up. if this is a french door model there are two switches for the refrigerator, one for each door.

It's a bottom drawer freezer model. I tried holding the door switch closed with my finger once when the chripper was active, and it didn't make any difference- though the light went off as it should. I figured the light circuit was controlled by the switch. I am still thinking it's the board.
