Inept repair guy here...grew up w/o a dad, so while im inept, Im more than willing to tear stuff apart and learn by trial, error, and frequently electrocution...

Back Story: Wife and I were poor college students and obtained this ancient Kenmore washer from the hillbilly inlaws. *kidding (in case they finally got the INTERNETSZ). So its been worked on, and worked over for years.

Anywho....Boyo stops filling w/ water, or fills terribly slowly, so after being terribly lazy, and making my wife wash loads where it takes like an hour to fill, I replace the Water Inlet Valves. (ain't I special...) Then, the damn thing leaks all over the floor cuz of course the hoses are ancient. So I replace both hoses, and VOILA! Its filling like a champ...!  Buuuuuuttttt.....now it won't STOP filling...it just fills and drains and fills and drains and fills and drains....you get the idea...

So, I figure its the water level switch. I remove the tube, and blow into the tube, and it closes the contact..so that seems to be OK, So I remove the other end, and blow through that...and Voila...now it apparently unclogged whatever was obstructing the dome switch in the tub. *ain't I special.

Ok...so now it stops fill, and moves into the next phase....agitate...where it just STOPS doing anything.

So...I figger its the lid switch, thinking maybe I knocked a wire loose or something,  so I pry the cabinet apart, which isnt difficult since the top is almost falling off, the sides dont connect in back anymore, and the back bows out, and the only way it holds together is if you push it all back together and pray (lost cabinet clamp/brackets, i dont know when....

Anyhoo....there is no lid switch...apparently the beverly hillbilly clan bypassed it years ago.  The connector is there, but the two wires have been clipped, and only the ground wire is still there, and grounded btw.  I found the other two wires which were cut on both sides of the connector taped together. Then I realized that it was still spinning/draining when the lid was up, so it couldnt be the lid switch...oops...tangent....but who knows....just laying it all out there...

The problem is....Washer fills, but will not agitate.  Timer advances, and it will spin out and drain the water, and go through the cycles fine...just when it gets to agitate, all I get is a loud hum.

The chances that the belt just happened to break at the same time Im replacing all this stuff just seems pretty remote.  Think maybe I hit a wire, or connector, or something....cuz it couldnt be the timer...but I guess it could be a contact in the timer...

Im about ready to take this old monster out back and shoot her, and I would, but im unemployed, and need to save money, and aside from that, at this point its a matter of honor....I'll get it workning hopefully, and THEN take it out back and shoot it...
