So... I thought the problem with my dishwasher handle was that we were missing a spring. Indeed, we were missing a spring, but it also seems that the plastic handle (part no. 8269117, if the diagram I downloaded from Kitchenaid's web site is correct,) has shattered. At the moment, I've got one side of this handle working properly. The other can't work, due to the place at which the plastic has broken. Looking inside the control panel, though, I can't see how in the world to get the old handle out, and therefore how to get a new handle in. I obviously have managed to unscrew the interior door panel to access the control panel, but at this point the only screws I see seem to affect the electrical connections. I'm very, very, unsure I want to disconnect anything electrical myself. But how in the world do I get this !(*#$*(#($* broken door handle out and replace it?

If you remove the outer panel ( four or six screws ) near the top, inside, on each side ........................the latch assembly is right below the console. the latch should be attached by two screws ..Turn the breaker off at the panel so you can disconnect the switch (s)... post a picture of what you are hung up on ( if possible )

Actually, I managed to solve the problem. I already knew how to get into the control panel (or else I would not have known that the handle was actually BROKEN), but was having trouble taking said handle out of the control panel assembly. With a bit of creative wiggling, though, I managed to sneak it out and sneak a new one in. Thanks for the help, though.
