Replaced the door closing strings and the seal on this dishwasher. Instruction specify that the seal bends in towards the inside of the tub, which is the opposite of the old seal. Now the door pops open. Should I reverse the seal?

I tried it the other way and it closes. I'm pretty sure the graphic designer at FSP doesn't actually try out the parts. The seal part number is 8193942 in case anyone else is searching with a similar problem.

OK. So now I'll at least post why I bothered to ask for advice on this. Aside from the illustration in the directions being drawn wrong, the seal is glued in place with a silicone sealant. So I had to spend about 45 minutes scraping out the silicone then scrubbing out the grove with alcohol and then scrubbing of the rubber EPDM seal too. It was a hassle I really wanted to avoid. Does anyone know who to write to in Whirlpool to get the directions corrected?

OK. Here's the illustration from the directions. See how it curves away from the wall into the tub at the end? That's not the way it goes; it will pop the door back open that way. It goes the other way, so the long part is against the wall and then the door will miss the long part as it closes to make the seal. So the retaining flipper should face the INSIDE of the tub, unlike it says: Insert new seal, starting at bottom right. With the retaining flipper and the white line facing the outside of the tub.There is no white line on it. Looking back on it, it's kind of obviously wrong. But given the design changes and that this one came with a silicone sealant, I knew they'd had problems with the old one, so I figured they'd changed the design significantly. Oh, and the instructions don't specify weather the silicone goes in the groove or just in front. I put it in. Attachment: kitchenaidseal.jpg (Downloaded 19 times)

Ha! . So I write a nice note to Whirlpool, asking them where do I send information to correct their misprinted directions. They write me back asking for the Model and Serial number of the appliance, the part number, where I bought it, and a description of the problem. . So I send them the description here with a few edits to describe it, including the picture showing what the illustration and description with the errors. I get back a note that has nothing to do with nothing. Though I'm tempted to start my reply with "Don't be ridiculous," I will attempt to refrain and show good etiquitte. . Here is the reply I received from Whirlpool: At the bottom of the instructions, as linked by Reg above, it says: ©Whirlpool Corporation 2004
