I have an older(yeah, I know, it's probably old enough to be your grandmother) Kenmore dryer model #11096272100. I recently replaced support rollers, belt, rear drum seal, and idler pulley. And after all that, plus a bad cut from #%&$#!!! sharp metal edges, it is still incredibly noisy! I removed the drum again and ran it and the motor rattles horribly. It shakes the entire dryer and makes so much noise I can hear it 2 floors up! I can't see that anything is loose. I plan to move across country in a couple years and don't want to buy a new dryer now if it is possible to resurrect this one. What do I try next?

try turning the Motor Shaft by hand.

Does it turn easily, smoothly, without any sideways play ?

are all the fins on the blower wheel (fan) and is it tight on the motor shaft
or something in it like a sock ?

Ee-haw!!!!! You diagnosed the problem. There is a piece broken off the fan. Do you think it could be successfully glued back on and if so, what type of glue should I use? If you advise against that, I will order a new part. Is it hard to replace?

OK. One more question - how the blazes do you remove the fan? I followed some instructions I found on line that says it unscrews clockwise. I can't get it to budge, even with my husband hold the motor shaft. Is there a trick to it?

Break the old one off in pieces..... Then look at the new blower threads to remove the last piece that is stuck on the motors' threaded shaft...........

Do not glue it.replace it and also look in there for the object that broke it, when you get the old one out, and watch your hands , sharp edges are everywhere. I usually try to grip the motor shaft with vise grips and grab the fan and turn it tapping the vise grips against the cabinet. might take a pretty good wack. wear gloves it will cut you.

Thanks. I did finally get it off. I'm going to try temporarily to glue it so I can dry the wet clothes lying in clothes baskets while I wait for the new part to arrive. Hopefully it will last that long. Thank you so much for all the help! This is one forum I am going to bookmark for sure!
