Hi - I have an LG WM3431HW washer/dryer combo that's about 2 years old. Haven't had any problems with it up until now.

We went through a long period (about 8 months) of not using the machine for various reasons, but I made the mistake of not turning off the water to the machine while it was not in use. Now it seems that water is slowly leaking into the machine when not in use. Otherwise the machine still works fine.

My first thought was that maybe it was just some problem with one of the hoses, and I just need to replace those, but after doing a little reading, it seems like it might be more complicated than that -- a water inlet valve?

Any idea whether replacing the hoses would be a first thing to try, or would that not be the cause of this type of problem? Could it be anything else other than the water inlet valve?

If it is the water inlet valve, how expensive are those to replace, and how difficult would the job be on this model? I'm not the world's most handy guy, and time is sort of of the essence here. How much could I expect it to cost to have a repair professional fix it?

Failed water valve.

Try turning off the cold water spigot---if no additional water enters the tub then the COLD WATER VALVE ASSY (5220FR2075C) has failed.

If water contines to enter the tub---the HOT WATER VALVE (5220FR2006H) failed.

This is one of the easier type of repairs that can be done.

Unplug combo.

Turn off water---remove water hose.

Remove two phillips-type screws from the rear of the top cover.

Slide top cover rearward & lift off.

There will be a metal plate cover which is secured by approximately a dozen more screws---remove these and lift the cover off.

The water valve is secured to the washer by 2 screws. Remove the screws & replace the valve.

Thanks guys. This sounds like something I could try to do myself, although this week happens to be one of the craziest times for me at work ... I may need to bite the bullet and have someone else fix it, but it was helpful to learn this information so that I know what needs to be done.
