had compressor replaced a week agobecause it was making noise and it was warm by local repair man .First few days worked great but now its warm different repair tech came back now and said that compressor lines inside were leaking refrigerant inside and this was common and now we have to dipose of refrigerator my question is when the first tech replaced compressor shouldn't he have seen the leaking lines when he filled the system with refrigerant ??? Do you put a vacumn on lines to get rid of any moisture in system thanks kevin

It's unlikely that you had a leak and a bad compressor at the same time. Was the unit working properly before the compressor was replaced? just noisey? In any event the tech should have warned you of the potential of a leak forming after the compressor was replaced. Although this is not too common , it can happen. Depending on the brand some manufactures recommend replacing Evaporator and compressor at the same time. The evaporator is most likely what is leaking on your unit. However, there's also the possibility that the first tech that replaced your compressor created a leak or didnt do very good work and the 2nd. tech just assumed the problem was in another area. Never the less as Robbie says he definitely should of pulled a vacuum on the system. I would definitely be calling them back. Let us know what they tell you and we can possibly give you verbal ammo to defend yourself and hopefully get your problem handled one way or another.

You didn't say the name brand.(or I missed it) I bet you have some debris clogging something up left over from the "bad compresser" In my limited experiance,..if you are dealing with a domestic sealed system (home frig) and have a bad compesser or system leak....time to go shopping,

It's SOP to check for leaks b4 replacing a compressor. But enough freon can leak out to make it undetectable by some methods. The 2nd company could be wrong in their diagnosis. Maybe the charge just needs to be adjusted. Not ideal, but not uncommon, either. Have you contacted the 1st company yet?

its a fridigaire s by s and they are returning again on thursday will let you know the out come the new tech should try and pull vacumn to check for leaks or add an additive to find leak correct thanks again

Hope this 'new tech.' does not use a vacuum pump to try and find a leak........drawing a vacuum will confirm a leak but if will not let the tech locate the leak......Three ways to find a leak ( if the leak is accessible, Not in the walls or the yoder loop )..... 1 ) pressurize with dry nitrogen to about 120 p.s.i. ,and use bubble leak detector.......2 ) Add about 2 oz. of refrigerant, run the compressor to circulate the refrigerant, ( turn off the comp. ) Pressurize to about 120 p.s.i., Use a sniffer to get close,...... ( works for finding a leak in the tube of the evaporator where bubbles cannot get to ) ......................... then bubblize to pinpoint the leak in the connecting tubing.................... 3 ) Amplified leak detector..... Headphones and amplifier with probe that picks up the sound of the dry nitrogen leaking out of the hole. .................. I would start at the new connections of the new compressor....
