We have had this dishwasher for about 12 years and recently started noticing that sometimes the dishes aren't always clean. we have tried switching detergents and this hasn't helped. Any suggestions? are there filters or other components that I could remove and clean? thank you

to clean filter the wash arm simply pulls straight up and off, then the small center cup lifts out for cleaning, next the lil tower in the center twists off with a 1/4 turn(only goes one way, dont force/strip it) then the large fine filter removes for cleaning after cleaning replace all parts and make sure the small center tower is locked in place, then spin the bottom wash arm by hand and make sure it is not hitting any of the support brackets for the heating element(these can get bent if something falls out past the bottom rack and catches on them when the rack is rolled out) try that and post back if you have repeat problems btw, if your sink drains slow your dishwasher will not drain properly and reuse dirty water

thank you. I cleaned out the filters. There didn't appear to be much dirt in them that could explain why the washer wasn't cleaning well. Our sink drains well so I don't believe that will be an issue. We will try it this week and see how it goes.

the dishes still aren't getting clean. Are there other things that I can check that may be causing problems? thank you

first make sure all holes in both wash arms are not plugged, spin wash arms by hand and make sure they are not jamming on anything also make sure the fine filter in the sump is not plugged, if the filter holes are plugged over it will starve the wash pump of water, also ensure this machine does not have a drain hose routed down through the floor or lower than the water level in the tub, after that an easy test in the middle of a wash cycle rapidly open the door, the machine should spray water out, water should be up to the element support brackets(post back with pictures if you think the water is much lower than this),if you find there is no spray you are prolly looking at changing the motor/pump assembly your model requires the "kit" which changes everything and will fix any cleaning issues aside from a plugged filter or plugged wash arms, or improperly routed drain line http://www.repairclinic.com/Pump-Parts?s=t-FDB989GFC2-%3d%3dc36 Last edited on Sat Nov 6th, 2010 07:30 pm by BrntToast ____________________ The only stupid question is the one not asked hope i've been helpfull, if you wish to buy Brnt beer kick here http://brnttoast.googlepages.com/home feel free to prvt msg frigidaire questions my way (i dont log in every day) |

I checked the filters and the wash arms and all seem ok. water runs cleanly through them and they spin easily. How hard is it to install the kit? It would be nice to get a few more years out of this washer. Thanks
