Trying to decide if I should fix my existing or buy a new dishwasher. I have a Whirlpool Gold GU980SCGQ2 Dishwasher now that's about 10 years old. I was running it just about everyday. Now, whenever it wants to engage the motor ...wash cycles or even if I press the Cancel/Drain button, the motor runs for a second and then stops. The behavior initial felt like some switch was malfunctioning and shutting it off. However after readying I now wonder if the motor unit is bad. It is indeed corroded with water damage. Two things though make me wonder if it isn't something along the lines of my initial hunch: 1.) I had the same or at least a very similar problem several years ago with the unit. Manually, moving the float value up and down and cleaning out some calcium build-up fixed the problem....or at least that's what I messed with and it started working again. Didn't work this time so far. 2.) I tried hand spinning the motor to see if it wasn't stuck on something. It moved freely. Now the motor runs for 2-3 secs instead of 1 before shutting down. This I guess actually supports the notion the motor is bad. Any thoughts on the issue was be great. Thanks in advance! Scott

Thanks! The tech sheet is very helpful. Didm't have a lot of time today but here's what the volatges at the Motor check out as during the drain cycle. Turn on power - All zero Press Drain/Cancel: motor spins for a second P10 - 120v AC (stays on) P5 - momentary flicker; then like 1v AC or so P3 - momentary flicker; then like 1v AC or so after some period of time, the motor spins again for a second and the voltmeter shows the momentary voltage flux on P5 and P3 After a few cycles of this, the cycle stops and the light on the Drain/Cancel button turns off.

if there's 120v on P10 and 0v on P5, it should be Draining 0v on P4, it should be Washing
