Greeting customer called to have this new cooktop hooked up, said he got a great deal on it. Once connected, it didn't work. I opened it up and found the tech sheet (woo hoo) and went to work. No spark so I checked the power, check the connections make sure no loose wire connectors. then move on to the transformer witch didn't check out (OK found the problem) order a new transformer and installed it. same problem, now I didn't check the one before I installed it (figured it is good). so back I go to my supplier and brought with me the tech sheet to double check the values on the transformer. they ordered me an other one. now here is my question, is it possible to have blown the trans during the install? does any one know if there is a recall on this cooktop? (2 new trans and both bad)

Can you post or fax the tech sheet? At the least the schematic portion of it. My fax is 866-315-4504. Were you getting 120vac to the spark module?

Awesome, domo Reg! Mufasa, looking at your schematic, you don't have a separate spark module-- it's built in to the control board. What measurements did you do on the transformer? Did you do any voltage checks? Also, did you check for 120vac between pins 9 and 10 of the P2 connector?

Reg, meter is auto ranging( Fluke series 77) OK got the new transformer and this time i made sure to check it. all points checked according to the table on the tech sheet. installed it and connected all wires. plugged it in and no workie!@#$>. the hot surface alarm would come and off in 5 sec intervals. so I take it back apart and check the transformer, the 4 to 5 points are now open ( this was at 306 ohm before the install). don't know what to do next, one thing for sure is something is causing the transformer to go bad? any thoughts?

OK ... check for a short across where 4 & 5 connects to the Control Board (won't matter if Transformer is connected or not)

Reg, the 306 +- 30 ohm on the tech sheet is for the transformer. I didn't see anything indicating what the values on the re-igniter valve control should be. K-dog, you may be on to something, it would explain why the transformer is being blown if the wires are crossed. will check tomorrow. domo

IF the voltage was 1v, that would draw more than 1 Amp IF the voltage was 2v, it would draw more than 2 Amps etc .. looks like a bad Controller

Reg, the meter reads 0 ohm when the probe touch each other, is this the same as shorting the probes? why is the "hot surface" temp alarm keep going off, on the drawing it show it open? don't know what the quote below means? IF the voltage was 1v, that would draw more than 1 Amp IF the voltage was 2v, it would draw more than 2 Amps

1) yes 2) I don't know, yet .. 3) .7 OHMS would seem to indicate something is wrong with the Controller
