lol its a classic direct drive. with more noise but its meant to be a throw away washer at that price. its a steal. the one thats "not HE" its the sister model. it uses more water and sometimes will have an agitator in it. if your gonna go with the model i pointed out, pick the HE version of it. good luck!

Thanks to your guidance - I will soon be proud owner of a new Admiral washer thanks to you guys! Home Depot will deliver next weekend (10-16-10). Must be coming by way of muletrain - although in stock, it takes a week from Roanoke to Martinsville! Go figure! Considering my old machine has a bad tranny, but is otherwise in good shape, any suggestions what I should do with it? Be nice! Seriously, someone with more time than me (and tools) could repair it cheap - tranny still under 10 year warranty. Should I give to charity? Should I just let Home Depot delivery guys haul it away? It just seems wasteful to throw it in the dump! Any suggestions? Thanks again for all the terrific advice. You guys are the best! Samantha

I know out here in California, when the delivery guys take it, they are required to give you a receipt of disassembly for recycling. The basically give it to a company to do that. you could give it away on craigs list for someone who really needs a washer and let them know it needs a new tranny and its covered under a ten year warranty. make sure they know labor charges apply. but give them the A&E phone number. its 129.00 flat in most area's of the country.

Thank you for this information. I'm saving that diagram for future reference in case the Admiral breaks down. Also, thanks for pointing me in the direction of the Admiral to begin with - you saved me money and time! All of you guys are wonderful and I'm telling all my lady friends what hero's you are to me.  Of course none of them is mechanically inclined to even attempt an appliance repair, but neither are their husbands. Thanks again, Sam

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! Your recommendation of the direct-drive Admiral washer for $271. has made me very happy! It arrived last Saturday and I immediately did 2 weeks worth of laundry. This little gem out-performs my old Maytag and certainly cost less up front. It isn't as noisy, nor does it go out-of-balance with every load like the Maytag did. Not only did everything come out clean and fresh, they were practically dry after the spin cycle. This of course saved on drying time. I am pleased as punch with this little Admiral and would never have known about it if not for you! Gratefully yours, Samantha

Dryer matches old Maytag Atlantis. Seems to work okay, although I question the accuracy of the dryness indicator. It is supposed to ding when clothes are dry, but often doesn't do this until clothes are EXTREMELY dry and parched. It is 5 years old and has been lightly used. It doesn't make any strange noises. I really need to yank it out from the wall and clean the venting pipe which might make it more efficient. I don't know how many years I'll get out of this dryer considering the early death of its companion washer... Any hot buys on a really good dryer out there? Thanks in advance! Sam

Dryers last longer than Washers .. easier / cheaper to repair your 5 years is not so long .. matching Dryer $ 239 (electric) delivered .. gas model is +extra using gas is cheaper in most areas of the country

Since the old Maytag dryer is working, I'll hang on to it for now. Thanks for the suggestion of for a new dryer. My next repair project will be our microwave oven. I will attempt to replace the magnetron and may be posting in the kitchen appliance section here. Thank you again for helping me with my washer and pointing me in the right direction. I took a look at your Easter Seals video - very nice indeed. Folks like you make the world a better place. Samantha

This is a GE XL1800 Spacemaker, model JVM1850SH02. Everything was fine and one day - POOF - the oven stopped heating. This particular model was notorius for magnetron failure. So much so, that GE sent free ones out upon request. Also, other forums said over and over that magnetrons failed in this model, so I called GE and sure enough they mailed one to me free without any arguments. I haven't had time to tackle this repair yet because I'll need some help getting it off the wall. Darn thing is heavy and I need to recruit a friend to help me. I'll check back with you as soon as I begin this repair. Thanks for being so helpful - you are more than kind. Samantha

The interior light, the clock, the over-the-range vent van, etc. all work. Everything is fine except it won't heat food. This is another reason I think it may be the magnetron. Thanks for the tip. I'll have to check into the door fuse issue...
