I am so disappointed in this machine. Bought new 5 years ago and has only been used for husband and me. Darn thing makes noises during regular cycle agitation, and worse, leaves clothes dripping wet at the end of a cycle. Obviously it doesn't spin fast in the last cycle. Do y'a ll think just replacing the belt on the bottom of this machine might do the trick, or am I faced with bigger problems? Thanks for any help!

What type of sound does it make during agitation? Replace belt won't help. The top of the machine is held down with 2 on the front. If you press those clips in you can raise the top up. Turn the machine to spin and watch the agitator during the spin cycle....is the agitator going back and forth while the tub is spinning? If so the transmission is bad. Let us know

Noise: Sort of rapid tap, tap, tap, tap...or click, click, click Agitator turns during spin cycle, but interior basket doesn't spin fast like it used to. I removed cover and tubs. Lots of lint and gunk between inner basket and outer tub. Cleaned all that crap out thinking it might be slowing down the spin cycle. Do you know if tranny for this model has long warranty? Is tranny hard to replace? (As you can tell, I am a very handy lady - mechanically inclined) I'm so darn mad about this, I wonder if I should just buy a new machine??

Wannty for the tranny should be your owners manual. I know Jan 1 2006 warranty changed to (1) year. If the part is under warranty generally an authorized technician has to do the work (however lately I have heard of customers just being able to get the part without this) If you have to go the authorized route the service and labor charge will probably br $250-$300. If you get the part and do it yourself the machine has to be completely torn down....depending on your mechanical abilities some special tools may be required. I wouldn't recommend spending the money to have someone else do the work. I would either do it myself with the free tranny (if applicable) or put your money into a Whirlpool direct drive machine (before they are all gone)

wow... we are under charging A&E Factory Service is $129.00 Flat rate in most areas nation wide. We carry your transmission on the truck I usually replace the brake, stator, belt, snubber, and thrust bearing with the transmission... its optional though.. you don't really have to go that far into it. i change them all because they wear together and if I am ripping it to the core anyway... The tub seal/hub comes with the transmission. i just did one yesterday it was a total of $250 with California's 9.75% tax on the parts lol btw your transmission has a 10 year warranty - part only. ![]() Last edited on Sat Oct 9th, 2010 07:10 am by Tronicsmasta ____________________ It is never a bad thing to leave it to the professionals. Even if the tranny is covered under warranty, I hate the idea of buying tool just to fix the dang thing. I'm sick of dealing with the stupid thing and laundry is piling up. I am very intriqued with your mention of the Whirlpool Direct Drives...are they new? My previous machine was a Whirlpool and that sucker was a real work horse. It was 15 years old and I left it behind when I sold the last house. Where's the best place to shop for Whirlpool? We have local brick and morter Home Depot and Lowes, but I have no problem buying elsewhere if I save $$$. Thanks much! Samantha

the newer direct drives are not as robust as the used to be. whirlpool retooled the factory and are no longer producing them. you can still get one though. they are noisy, go off balance, and shake more than they used to. as of 01/01/2011 federal law prohibits the sale of any washer using more than 20 gallons of water. the price point is usually 300 at cosco for a whirlpool estate or kirkland brand. you can get the more fancy ones other places for 350 - 600 depending on the features. the new load sensor is not much to be impressed by. they eliminated the water level switch to save water and they fail pretty rapidly. you may want to consider going higher end... or buying an older used direct drive. my personal favorite is the whirlpool cabrio HE price point 799 - 1099

Hey Tronics - Sounds like buying a direct drive puts me no further ahead since they've cheapened them down like everything else. Is the Cabrio the one with washer "plates" instead of an agitator? A freind of mine has one and it "ate" a quilt once. This is what I really want...a RELIABLE, long lasting washer - plain and simple, nothing fancy needed, nor is energy a concern, but it must do a good job cleaning clothing. In YOUR learned opinion....what brand and type would you buy for $600 or less? Thanks much!

under 600? ehhh.. the most reliable that i can think of IS the whirlpool direct drive... a GE top loader isn't too bad... the mode shifter can be a bit of a head scratcher at why it fails so fast some times. other than that? my biggest urge is spend more than 600... more like.. 800-1000... retail prices of course... that does not include discounts and savings or sales yet.

Ok....because your posts are TERRIFIC, plus you're in SC....like my better half from Good Gawd Gaffney...I'm trusting you! I'm gonna buy this Admiral washer and will let you know how it goes. Thanks again for all the great help and putting up with my crazy posts. I really do some repair work...fixed out fridge, an old clothes dryer, and about to tear into a microwave oven to replace the magnitron. I'm not the typical housewife, but can always use good advice from pros like you. Thanks again everyone!
