Was given this washer with a bad bearing. Replaced bearings and seal put back together and works well with small loads. larger loads cause UE (unbalanced code) continuously. Changed shocks. Seems to spin true, no play. just the unbalancing.

machine is on a tile floor (hard surface). weight evenly distributed and level.

am curious as to the counterweights. The parts diagram indicates the upper and lower weights should be the same, however, this machine has a red metal weight and a black cement filled weight. the parts diagram indicates the weight is a black weight. should they both be like this? if not, does the red metal weight go above and the black concrete weight go below? or vice versa.

Machine works great if it did not try to balance the load so much or not complete the wash on heavier loads.

I checked the springs and they don't seem over extended at all.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Thank you, Sensei!

I noticed that on the parts list it mentions the weight twice - same part number. you think I may have to get another one with the same number (4866Er0004A)?

I already had a service manual and did some of the tests. when I put it to drain and spin (hi speed) with a large load it moves alot. No play on drum

whaddaya think?

thx

<<<I already had a service manual and did some of the tests. when I put it to drain and spin (hi speed) with a large load it moves alot. No play on drum>>>

******************************

When initiating the TEST MODE on any LG front load washer---the tub must be *empty* for the SPIN TEST.

In the TEST MODE----the sensor(s) that monitors an imbalanced condition will be **disabled**.

If the TEST MODE is intiated and there's laundry in the tub during the *SPIN TEST*--- the tub will spin violently.

The *correct* method for testing a SPIN CYCLE with laundry would be:

1) Load Laundry in Tub / Close Door

2) Power "On"

3) Press SPIN SPEED button (maximum speed setting)

4) Press "START" button

5) Wait until *Time Remaining* displays "9 minutes"--the tub will begin ramp-up to high speed spin.

If the drum asmy. frame moves enough it will hit the "bracket asmy." pt#: 4811ER3001A which is there to tell the machine that the load is too far out of balance. If it hits just a little or infrenquently it will not go to code. Unless the bracket asmy is bad. If bad some will code even when not touched.

The newer machines use a motor load / rpm sensor, called a "hall sensor" to provide this info. If the unit is properly leveled and on a cement floor, and not too far out of balance, it will be a bad bracket assmy.

The unit self balances, to a degree, by shifting the clothes back and forth till it senses it's within tolerance then it pulses the motor to compensate for the opposing force of the off balance weight. That being said some units do move around more than others with no clear reason.

We have had a couple of cases where the unit was level, on a cement floor, changed shocks and bracket asmy and still would vibe too much.

The bracket asmy. is located in the rear via the motor access panel. It's to the lower right. Mounted to the rear cabinet wall.
