I'm new here, and mostly wanted to say Hello. Is it me , or does it seem like people upgrade and throw away a good working appliance? Since I started to look for used appliances to learn on , my wife is getting used to my latest find in the garage.I'm amazed at the quality I find. Last week I ran across a Maytag Dependable series washer and dryer, They worked great ( a tribute to old Maytag). This week I am working with a newer Kenmore fridge.( yet to find a problem). A goal is to gain enough experience to run house calls, and acquire some inventory Look forward to being here.

yep, a lot of people throw perfectly good appliances away, or get rid of them with only minor problems. it will take you quite some time if your not that familiar with appliances as far as the different sequences of operations of all the different brands and the certain failures and things to look for. anytime you have a question just let us know and welcome aboard

There's plenty more to come. Can't get them all. I started out in this business much the same way you are Tuco. I still remember my father telling me: "One Man's Trash is Another Man's Treasure". <laughing> Every word of it was true...

Up here in New Hampster, towns have what're called " Stump dumps" where people take scrap metal, old appliances, and, yes, stumps. One of our Sunday rituals is to go down to the Stump Dump with my boys and pick through appliances in the bone pile pile for parts for various projects they're working on. Once in a while find a good appliance but we're mostly there parts (not for use in service calls) and some quality father-son time.

Those energy star rebates got people to dump their perfectly good working appliances for all the new junk. I cringe when I hear somebody got rid of their Whirlpool top load washer for a new LG or Samsung front loader.

i used to say it was because people have more money than brains, but nowadays it more like people have far too much more credit than brains my mom has an old blue dash maytag washer i pulled out of our scrap pile, i changed the aerator seal and she has been using it for over 7 years now without any further repairs

As an ex auto assembly plant worker, I'm sick of imports period. When you have your job eliminated because everybody keeps buying imports, you'll understand. Out of work? Keep buying imports! It's beginning to sound effete.

My friend had just purchased a nice Red LG washer & Dryer front loaders. He put his old WP DD large basket washer, and WP dryer up for sale. I told him he might want to store his ole WP's cause I'd be surprised if the LG's would last that long. I thought I put my foot in my mouth, it happened so fast. But we are still friends.

Oh, I got a little greif for comparing some nice new fire engine red LG's to the ole WP's that my friend was getting rid of.....you see his wife picked out the new LG's, then I was walking on egg shells for my opion. I quickly dropped the subject.Eveything is okay. People don't like to know they might have gotten ripped off. Next time I will say " thats a pretty color" and drop it.

Oh man! Those last three posts had me laughing fairly hard... My apologies Tuco. You've only joined this forum very recently & not aware of some of the older discussions that occurred. No harm done though...
