The Patient: Asko W600 washer Age: purchased June 2001 Previous surgeries: New main motor, 2008 Symptoms: after filling, it fails to agitate then clicks to either C or S. Sometimes it works, normally after a small dance that includes tilting the washer and letting it thump down onto the floor. Fortunately, our first names begin with C and S, so the fault points to who has to dance with the washer next. Sometimes, it goes through a full cycle. However, it is now agitating and then mid-cycle goes to C or S. Problems started when male member of household used too much powdered detergent and the pressure sensor line became occluded. However, problem could be age related. Physical examination: Fills fine. Spins fine. Pumps out water/drains fine. Pin trap, empty. Pump propeller, spins freely. Water inlet, demineralised. Line to pressure switch clear allows air to flow. When diaphragm disconnected from switch, air pressure does cause switch to click. Please advise how I can do a differential diagnosis to figuring out whether the problem is the pressure diaphragm, pump motor, solenoid or something else... and the best way to do so and fix it without electrocuting self  Lastly, if there is a manual that is more in depth than the lousy one that we get upon purchase, that would be *swell*. Ta muchly. The female member of the household armed with a multimeter, screw driver, and willing to purchase parts instead of paying a plumber!

nudge nudge wink wink. Indeed, according to the diagnostics with the guidance from the manuals thoughtfully forwarded, the problem stems from problems with the solenoids (water inlet). I never noticed where the water level was when it had been working properly. Will a new water inlet valve transplant also make that odd humming noise that occurs right at the beginning to go away?

Shall try after washer finishes whirling. The water level was ~4L shy of where it should have been. I added the difference during fill to see whether it would progress normally to eliminate other function defects albeit that water will have to be added during the rinse cycles. So far, so good. I am not surprised that the fault is in the water inlet as the washer-dance may have been required to get one of the valves to drop into place. In addition, we do have hard water, so the line may be blocked limiting flow. Is there a way to treat the water inlet valve to clear clogs? Citric/Acetic acid? Can one get filters to go in front of the washer inlet to remove mineral salts? Thanks!

Follow-up, which may help other people whilst they wait for parts. Topping off water whenever the water input is needed works well. You just have to man the washer during fill periods. We have a gallon jug that we fill from the tap and pour from the detergent drawer. 1.25 jugs helps with filling at the initial fill [setting 2], after the spin and for the first rinse 2 gal, additional spins, 1 gal. Have done 4 loads since the last post. Excellent! Cannot wait until the part arrives so I can do things in more than 10 or 5 minute spurts. Go ahead, PatOff, wiggle those eyebrows.
