Amongst other annoying issues (leaky door), our Bosch dishwasher decided today that it doesn't want to fill. At the end of the last cycle, we came home to a noise, which I'm now pretty sure is the drain pump, trying to drain the dishwasher....except that there's no water in it. If I dump water in, it promptly drains out, but the pump doesn't shut off. Cycling the power to the dishwasher, and cycling the breaker both don't resolve the problem. Thoughts? -Kevin

flood switch has been activated- remove toe kick and see if there is water standing in the pan below the sump/pump..if so you must dry it out and find the source of said leak...

Never leave the home with the dishwasher OR the washer OR the dryer operating....Imagine if the d/w did not have a drain pan to catch the leaking water...Buckled hardwood floors..............P.S. I read some where some home owners insurance will not cover water leaks from appliances anymore.......Need a special rider to cover water damage..............

Yep, definitely water in the base. That has been cleaned out, and the leak was coming from the door, running down the door, into the access panel cover, then into the base. I've cleaned out the base, and there's no water in there, but the drain pump continues to run. Is there some procedure that has to be performed to reset the flood switch? -Kevin

after removing all of the water and the drain is still trying to drain, lift up on the red plastic rod and then lower the rod ..does the float drop down to the bottom of the pan?? some thing could have gotten stuck under the styrofoam float..........

there are several compartments in that base...a real pain in the a** to get dry... try RR's suggestion, A hair drier or fan pointed at the pan area: careful if you use a hair drier; it will melt plastic if left too close, too long. i missed CTG's comment but also a good possibilty... I've had a fan on it for the past couple days, to make sure everything was dried out. The styrofoam float is in contact with the bottom of the base, and the arm that the float pushes up is bottomed out underneath the red rod that triggers the switch. I've even gone so far as to push down on the arm, to make sure it's bottomed out, then turned on the dishwasher, and after a second or two, the drain pump immediately kicks in. -Kevin

hmmm, tough one. maybe the micro switch itself got wet ...water making the contacts? also be aware, in any cycle selection on a bosch,the first thing it does is try to pump any water out of the tub that maybe let from the last cycle. so let it run a while and see if the watervalve doesn't come on in a minute or two... Someone (me) needs to be a bit more patient, and let the thing run its normal cycle! After about 20 seconds, the pump shut off and the valve opened. I'll let it run an empty cycle and make sure it's behaving properly. Assuming all goes well with that, it's time to order new door seals. Any recommendations for good sources for those? -Kevin

I'm happy to say the dishwasher ran a full cycle, without a single leak! I suspect the initial problem was the goo I cleaned out of the lower spray arm (read about that on here, BTW), followed by the lower pan filling and triggering the flood sensor. Thanks to everyone for the help! -Kevin

Okay, when loaded, the dishwasher still leaked. So, clogged spray arms weren't to blame for that. I ordered a new door seal from Repair Clinic earlier this week; it arrived today, earlier than they said it would (always a nice thing!). That's installed, and we'll see how the next cycle goes. -Kevin
