Exalted Master, please excuse this pitiful one's ignorance, I am in need of your wisdom. I have an Amana ARG 7600LL range, and the broiler comes on fine, but the oven won't light. The igniter glows bright, but no gas is flowing. If I give the gas valve a good solid whack it comes on. The same when it comes up to heat and shuts off, it won't come back on to regulate the heat. What I can't figure out is why the gas flows for the broiler but not the oven, they use the same gas valve. I can hear the thermostat click in the top when I try to start up, but nothing happens. Is it in the gas valve or in the thermostat?

If you really wanna get scientific an' all, you gotta measure the ignitor current draw. See my illustrative tome on this matter... http://fixitnow.com/wp/2008/08/06/how-to-replace-the-ignitor-in-a-gas-oven-a-pictorial-guide/ But there is a 92.798445% (approximately) chance that the ignitor is bad so the odds and the Appliance Gods favor you replacing the ignitor... http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail.aspx?s=t-ARG7600LL-%3d%3di1191&PartID=1191

I'll try that, exalted one, but why does it come on when I assault the gas valve?

The Ignitor is in series with the Gas Valve. The Ignitor need to draw about 3 Amps in order to heat to the correct temperature, and for the Gas Vale to have the correct voltage (3v AC) across it, in order for the Gas Valve to open. If the Ignitor only draws 2.5 Amps, the Gas Valve would only have about 2.5v AC across it, which is almost enough to open it, unless someone gives it a "whack".

All you're gonna do by going Neanderthal on the valve is cost yourself more money on the repair. Stop. Engage gray matter. Grok the links I posted. Ask clarifying questions. But put the hammer away.
