Have owned this compactor for 2 years and now makes much more noise when compacting (particularly on the way back up). Ram recently got stuck, had service call, freed ram and said couldn't find anything wrong. Still makes very loud noise. I have previously taken unit out and found that tightening the power screw nut reduces the noise for a short time but it recurs and nut is loose again. Any suggestions? Thx much.

None of the Power screw components looked worn? The nut appears to be a typical hex nut. you might try replacing them with the nylon insert type available at most hardware stores or some blue Loc-tite. Power Screw Kit Link Compactor Manual Link (starting at page 67)

Thanks for your help. I replaced the nut and still making a lot of noise both up and down. How do I get at the power screw to inspect the other components?

Still struggling with this darn compactor. Replaced the power screw nut on one side and when I tried the compactor it proceeded down normally but gave out a loud squeal at the bottom rather than changing direction. I manually returned the ram to the top position and tried again but the same thing happened. I must have done something different this time as I've tightened this screw several times in the past without any problem. Any suggestions on the next step? Thx much for your help.
