While changing a thermostat on my Kenmore dryer, I inadvertently left the wires off the thermal fuse (after checking for continuity). As I started the dryer to check it out sparks flew and now it does nothing. The 2 thermal fuse wires were touching the metal vent. Does anyone know what this might have affected? Before I Bozoed this repair job the dryer was running but not heating. Now it does not run and even the light in the drum will not come on. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Fix your wire ends and turn the breaker back on...it tripped when the wires shorted.

After you get it going, why did you decide to change the thermostat?

I checked the breaker and cleaned the wire ends after it happened. The breaker wasn't tripped.  As I stated, the dryer wasn't heating.  The thermal fuse was okay so I checked for continuity in the cut-off tml.  There wasn't any.  It and the high heat thermostat came in a package.  That is why I changed the thermostat. As you can tell,  I am not even a novice at this. Just trying to save a few bucks.

You need to confirm that you are getting 220 VAC to the terminal block where the power cord connects to the dryer. Outside to outside should be 220 and each outside to the center should be 110V

What makes you think the break wasn't tripped?  Did you just look at it and say, "Oh, it's still on must be OK?"

Electric dryer, 220 volt double breaker, beaker handle levers keyed together.  When they trip you can't tell by just looking or pushing to on.    Must turn breaker all the way off to reset then back to on.

:?     Thanks Appl.Tech. & Willie for pointing out what a moron I am!  Come to find out you both right.  The breakers didn't look like they were tripped.  I checked the outlet and found it was not "hot".  Went to the breaker box and turned the breakers off and on again.  Presto.  Back to normal.  The thermostat was the problem so at least I got something right. With your help and my limited knowledge, I got it fixed for 15 bucks.  Thanks guys. This is what forums are all about.

Your welcome, check your venting completely form the dryer to the outside....its the reason the fuse blew.
