Oh great one, your all powerful knowledge of all things appliance has been most helpful in my quest for clean garments. The evil 3E code has been my nemesis of late, and my patient and thorough searching through your forums have correctly guided me to investigate the motor. The machine has spewed forth great amounts of corrosive filth upon this turning device and wrecked havoc on its outer housing, which now has much rust on its lower portion. I also notice what I assume is a speed sensor on the "back" of the device (which faces the washer door). Although it is "sealed" with rubber, upon removal- much green corrosion can be seen on the board within. After cleaning (scraping with a knife), I reinstalled the whole lot. I was rewarded with high hopes, but alas- I achieved only half a wash cycle. Does your great mind allow you to infer any way to check the function of this speed sensor. Your helpful tech bulletins and service manuals have enlightened me, but I can find no mention of tests for this gremlin. MEMS sensor tests exist, but do not seem to be what I'm looking for. I humbly await your insight, O Fermented Grand Master. (all 3 wires check at 3.2 ohms at the motor and at the board).

Is the MOTOR corroded/rusty? If so, inspect the rear tub pulley area for evidence of water leaking from the tub bearing and dripping down onto the motor and everywhere else under the tub (reddish-brown stains). This would indicate a failed REAR BEARING ASSY (leaking/binding/seizing) and/or failed MOTOR. Was the washer noisy (roaring) during the spin cycle prior to malfunctioning? (if yes--this is yet more evidence of failed bearings).

I had taken the motor out while attached to the washer and ran it. It seemed to run without noise or vibration. The motor itself is not rusty, just the underside of the housing and plates. The wiring inside seems to be clean. The biggest problem seems to be (what I assume is) the speed sensor circuit board on the opposite end of the motor shaft. If has a lot of corrosion. I will send pictures tonight. Thank you for your help.

I took some REALLY bad pictures, see them here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=32461&id=100000115840248&l=3955aa2dae I tried to check Voltage on motor while it was running. I went from the Red wire to the green ground. I was unable to get a constant reading (using AC on digital voltmeter- DC didn't work either). I checked voltage on the speed sensor contacts on the motor shaft and it IS showing increasing voltage as the motor spins up. That makes me think its OK. Therefore, I assume the motor is bad or the board is bad. The hard part is figuring out which one, as I can't return either once I have purchased it. When the motor was running freely, I grabbed the grooved drive end with enough force to slow it down and it threw the 3E code. This makes me think it's motor. I'd like to hear thoughts on how to determine if it's the board or the motor. THANKS!!

Motor is a 3-Phase AC Motor With the Belt removed, try turning the Motor Shaft by hand. Does it turn easily, smoothly ? Can you turn the Drum easily ?

Yes, the drum and motor spins easily when the belt is removed. The drum bearings are OK, the water leakage is from the soap dispensing area. The motor also turns easily with little endplay.

The MOTOR is most likely the culprit. The DETERGENT DISPENSER BOX will need to be sealed with silicone--the top cover of the DD BOX is removeable. Apply a bead of silicone to the "channel" that the top lid snaps onto.
