Hi all, this 7 year old side by side has gone kaput. The only sounds are from a constantly running fan and periodic clicks. Timing on the clicks are………click…..ten seconds…….click…….90 seconds……….repeat. I beleive the clicks are coming from a white plastic part that is plugged in to the left side of the compressor, it has two terminals and is marked JSU21X156AOM. I wiggled it and it clicked, it turned bright red, (almost fire) and the compressor tried to start. Is this the relay? How can I test it? The compressor was warm (I held my hand on it for more than ten seconds). The two refrigerant lines were room temperature. How can I test the compressor?

Thanks for your advice.
Lee.

Time for a new Start Relay/Overload/kit 4387535

Unplug Fridge till you get a new one ..

You could test the Compressor by making a "cheater cord" if needed ..

Thank you. Please share with me about how to make cheater cord. Are we talking sending 120v straight to compressor?

Good news. I hope. I installed the Start Relay/Overload/kit 4387535. Freezer/ compressor is running. Freezer is down to 17 degrees in the first half hour. I could not figure out how to install the 4387535 because it does not resemble the original part in any way (I hope because it's improved). I found a similar fridge at work that has the 4387535 installed. Anyways now I hope it goes to zero, maintains temp and restarts when it should. Oh I am a slow typer, now down to 14 degrees.

Thanks.

Alrighty, 24 hrs later temps are good, restarts are fine. Now however it will not provide water. It sounds normal when you operate the water dispenser, but there is no water. It has produced ice. Any clues?

I assume the water dispensor was working before the relay died? Need to check to see if your getting 120 VAC at the water valve coil when you actuate the water dispenser.

Yes it was working. I do hear the typical sounds when I operate the lever, just no water. Will check for 120v @ the water valve coil.

I never turned the water off. Yesterday I shut the fridge down and left the freezer door open for hours. My thinking being I got excited when I got it running and turned the thermostat to its coolest setting and froze the lines. Last night after several hours it still wasn't working so I put it back in service and set it to the warmest temp. Today I get home and the water is working! I guess it was frozen. The water looks pretty cruddy but I guess lots of flushing and a new filter will fix that.

I think I'm home free now. What a blessing this site is.
