It all works great except it won't spin. All other motor functions work. It will rotate at the end but refuses to spin. It has been suggested elsewhere that it could be the speed control board. But I am a mere grasshopper so I sit in meditation until a wise one sees the anwser to my dilema and responds with great wisdom.:?

I referred to the tech sheet and it gave me a code of E46 which says to "Replace the control board." Have I obtained the knowlege of the wise one? Can this grashopper do the job?

According to the tech sheet  that RegUS_PatOff posted , that would be code 46

"Replace Control Board"

Not if the flashes aren't being counted correctly, this is a Frigidaire built F/L machine.

Common problem with counting the flashing lights.   The start light is flashing at the same time as the other row of lights and those first flashes may not be getting counted.

If it tumbles OK then the motor/speed control board is most likely OK.

You need to put it into the diagnostic cycle and if the high speed spin works in diagnostic cycle the motor/speed control board is OK.

The most likely cause of the problem is a bad wax motor in the door latch/lock assembly.

right, for the correct Start Light digit count,

you must count the total number of times the Start Light is flashing,

including during the flashing of the other 5 lights.

That is exactly how I determined the code........should I try the diagnostic anyway? Does the tech manual explain the diagnostic procedure?

The control board is showing up a part# WH20X10038 .....now some show it as a kit others show it as a single unit. The kit can run as high as 350.00 and the single unit which is mounted next to the motor is as low as $110.00. This grasshopper needs the wise words from a Master!!

Ok my master...I have done wrong.  I just ran the diagnostic and everything ran well including the spin. I somehow missed the code by one and the code is officially E47 which reads according to the GE tech sheet says; Board thinks the door PTC circuit is open in spin. Then it says to refer to test 9......which test 9 says 1. Remove the door lock assembly and measure the resistance of the PTC. The corrective action says Shorted or open. Defective door lock assembly. Reads around 1500 Ohms. Defective control board. So is it saying that the door lock assembly is dysfunctional due to the control board? Do I have to run my ohmmeter on the door lock assembly or do I simply replace the control board?

It's saying if the PTC is shorted or open then it's bad. It should read around 1500 ohms..if it does then it's good and the control board would be bad.

Not totally true Appl.tech.29501.

The PTC can ohm out good and the wax motor can still be bad, I find many times the failure of the wax motor is the actually mechanical part part of the wax motor.  The wax cartridge seal fails and the wax leaks out around the plunger so plunger can't overcome the spring pressure and extend correctly.

The machine doing a high speed spin in diagnostic is enough to prove you have a bad door latch/lock assembly.

Replace the complete door latch/lock assembly or take a look at this discussion thread for someone with the exact same problem and info about replacing just the wax motor in the door latch/lock assembly.
