My Samsung RS253BAWW started making scratching noise g=few months ago. At some point sounds were gone, then re-appeared again. Yesterday I noticed that freezer was working fine, but fridge side was not cold enough (appr 40F) and fridge temperature was flashing on display. Today I fixed it. Here is how: 1. ![]() You will have to remove few bottom shelves and use Philips screw driver to undo several screws, shown on PIC1 above. They hold rear panel which has to come off. Few of the screws are hidden behind one large and two small snap doors. There are also two electrical jacks on the right side which you have to disconnect. Remember their location to properly connect them back at the end of your fix! 2. ![]() This picture shows cooling coil all covered in frost and chunks of ice. It has to be defrosted and dried. 3. ![]() Placing a fan in fridge open door took care of defrosting rather fast. When all ice is gone, wipe all cavities with dry cloth. 4. ![]() Whole rear panel was placed in the sun outside and in 40 minutes was clean and dry. My panel had ice build-up inside the small rectangular air channel below the fan cavity. Some ice was reaching motor fan and this was causing scratchig noises for few months and eventually blocked fan blades. This causes ice build up to speed up. Once everything was defrosted cleaned and dried, I assembled everything back together and -VOILA! - fridge works fine and silently again! Hope this may help someone. Enjoy!

nice pictures ... that manual defrosting will work, but problem will return in a few weeks ... classic Samsung Defrost problem .. may be a bad Defrost Heater Element .. look closely at the Defrost Element connections.. one may be broken .. (bottom picture) ![]()

Great photos, nicely annotated. But I fear you'll be repeating this procedure in a few short weeks because it doesn't appear that you've addressed the root cause of the problem: why the refrigerator didn't defrost properly and automatically-- as it's supposed to do-- in the first place. Could be a burned out defrost heater-- common affliction with these boxes.

Hmmm...Quite possibly you are right... Will see... It will be easier now to deal with the probme, since I am a bit familiar with the "map". And if I have to fix defroster, I will post a new one. Thanks,
