Customer complains of loud fan noise in refrigerator. I show up ready to say "hey your fan is going bad, thats why its sooo loud sir" Customer says sure lets get a new one. Great!

I take out the old fan and and damper kit. (Fridge is unplugged of course) Install the shiny new one and....ITS THE SAME LOUD FAN NOISE!!!

Ironically, I own the same exact unit and have for 7 years. Not one problem (knock wood) so I know how quiet this fan is since I been intimate with it for so long.

Can somebody tell me why the same exact BRAND NEW facorty part (WR49X10091) would make the same high pitch fan noise again???? Where is the real malfunction?

could it be a mold impurity in the manufacturing process of the plastic..like extra flashing or something causing weird noises as the air hits it???

I think the duct vibrating in the cabinet is the source of the nose and why GE wants you to buy the duct and fan as an assembly. You may be able to dampen the noise by padding the duct everywhere contact is made at the cabinet to get rid of the vibration. Foam tape is your friend!

Of course, this leaves a perception issue with your customer but that may make a good post for the Appliance War Story forum.

Thanks for the suggestions. I own the same unit. In an attempt to satisfy my customer I am going to try my own fan in his unit. In my gray matter it is the fan.....so I am attempting to satisfy my own curiosity & earn a customer.
