hey.  a/c unit (outside of house) has a pcb that somehow controls 24v to contactor. I have to by-pass this board in order for contactor to engage. (im thinking the board is bad???) What does this board do??  a timer??? is it necessary? should i replace it and where do i find part? What is the circuit boards proper name???  (i know, sooo many questions...)

many thanks in advance....

john

Johnnie that is delay. It is a good thing to have. If the power is interrupted for a split second this delay does not allow the contactor to come on for 30 secs to a minute or so. This keeps the contacts from being burned up. If you have old folks or kids that fiddle with the thermostat the delay will protect the unit from being damaged.

You can set it for anywhere from 45 seconds to 5 minutes.
