I have a Whirlpool WTW5700SW0 top loading washer (old-school-agitator style) which occasionally seems confused as to which inlet is for cold, and which is for hot. For example, for the past few times I've ran the the washer it will pull hot water from the hot water tap when the temperature is set for cold. This washer has AccuWash, and cold is the only setting where that is not active. The hoses are definitely configured cold-to-cold and hot-to-hot, just as they've been all along. Tonight I seem to have reset the behavior by turning off the hot water at the tap and then setting the temperature to Hot (an AccuWash setting) and then let the cycle run through. I then returned to the cold temperature for the next load, and everything worked correctly. I've left the hot water off at the tap for the time being to prevent the issue from re-occurring until I find a solution. I'll mention that this was happening for a little while last year, but the issue went away (not before ruining a few shirts). Any thoughts as to what might be the cause and/or insights into this issue are welcome. Thanks!

This waher has an auto temp system and is supposed to cycle the hot water in regardless of the setting, the target is to have something like 75 deg for cold and 100 for warm, so for the hot water to come on is normal, however it should only remain on for a short time and then continue with cold only, and then repeat this during the entire fill. There is a thermister built into the valve that samples the temp of the incoming water to determine how much hot is needed. if the hot stays on continuously during a cold fill, that could indicate a problem with either the valve itself or the thermistor - RepairClinic part # for valve/thermister is 940831

Thank you for your response, kdog. I think the part which 940831 will replace is likely broken as you suggest, but in my experience with this machine (when working normally) is that begins to mix hot and cold when I move it to "cool". It is pretty obvious when this is occurring. Do you think that even on cold it has similar behavior, but just to a lesser degree? Thanks again for your time! ![]()

I was just looking at that switch on the diagram, and as always, Reg is right on the ball, hence you have your answer - I'll have to put that one somewhere in my overcrowded memory
