Ok, this is whats going on. It won't spin or agitate, but every once and awhile it will, but makes loud clicking grinding kind of noise, when agitate, spin or drain. You can hear the motor hum when it won't agitate etc. Motor coupling is fine, and I thought it was the gearbox, but that's has been replaced and still same problem. Also have put in new clutch. Brake pads also look good. attached pic of brake. I have taken it apart several times and end result is Epic Fail.....So asking for help......Please help laundry backing up, for 6 people, Thanks in advance. Ok, pretty much same noise in agitate, (only harder to hear because of splashing water), and spin so has to be something in common, (pointing to transmission - no already replaced, coupler - no checked, pump - something stuck inside it but sounds to loud for that. Remove the pump and run it and see if noise goes away, probably won't). From the sound and what you've said it sound to me like maybe bad motor bushings/bearings, that would also explain the sometime won't run - just hums problem. Take cabinet off machine and bypass lid switch so that you can run it with the cabinet off and find where noise is coming from. First, take pump clips off and remove pump and tie off to side out of the way and try it in spin. If noise is gone something is inside the pump. Next, if that didn't get rid of the noise, take the motor off the machine and after removed, set it close to machine and reattach motor wires, put foot on motor so that it doesn't jump away when starting and start it up in a spin cycle again. If the motor starts and makes a clanking noise, that would be your problem - bad motor bushings and rotor is slapping against stator windings. Also by hand see if you have any up/down/sideways play on either end of the motor shaft, if it's the motor making the noise you're most likely going to find too much movement which would also indicate bad motor bushings. Another thing that really gives me the clue it's the motor, it's nice and quite as it spins down/stops after motor stops running. Nice smooth braking and no thump of a bad/loose basket drive block.
