Hello... need help with my Maytag LSE7804ACE washer which isn't draining all of the way. It stops with about one inch of water left and won't go into the final spin cycle.

It drains fine until that last inch or so, then the whole thing shuts off. I've tried to advance the timer on the spin cycle manually but when I turn it on, it doesn't do anything.

Hoping for a somewhat simple repair or else I'll have to get a repairman to help.

So after it stops draining leaving an inch or so of water in it and you turn the timer to spin and it does nothing.....can you return to the machine a short period later and the machine will spin and completely drain the remaining water?

Thanks for the response!

I hope I'm understanding the question correctly, but no. I can start the cycle and leave it alone or manually advance it to spin... either way, after it gets "stuck" with that inch of water in it, it won't go any further in the cycle no matter how long I let it sit.

If I turn it back to before the spin setting on the dial, it starts filling with water again and begins to run until it drains and gets me back to the same place... an inch of water and stuck without completing the cycle.

When it gets "stuck" with the water in it,

can you turn it to the start of the Spin Cycle, and then will it Spin ?

No, even when I try to manually set it at the start of the spin cycle, and then pull the knob out to turn it on, it does nothing.

Yes, absolutely. It seems like the fill through agitate cycles work fine... even the draining works well until that last inch of water. Then everything stops.

I can't find the timer chart for your machine but I did find the wiring diagram.  I've ran into this exact same problem before, if I remember correctly, it's a bad timer.

Looking at the wiring diagram without the timer chart it appears that it will be contact # 8, which should be the water level switch bypass circuit.   What is occurring is that the the neutral is feeding thru the water level pressure switch and as soon as the water level gets low enough where the pressure switch trips to the position to call for water the neutral line is opened so spinning stops.

The way you can prove this is to fill the machine up all the way with the water level control set to the highest level and when it starts agitating push the timer knob in to turn off machine, turn it to the spin cycle and turn it back on.  When it stops spinning measure the water level that is left in the machine.

Now set the water level control to the lowest setting and do the same as above again.   When you measure the water level when spinning stops this time it will be lower then last time.

If you repeat the test at any water level setting it will always stop with the same level of water remaining as that level stopped at before.

Here's the wiring diagram:

Right, so I tried this test with the water levels. I set the water level to the highest (large), let it fill, turned it off, advanced to "spin" and it began draining. It left about four inches of water in the tub.

Then I tried with the water level on the lowest (small) and repeated the same steps. It left about an inch of water in the tub.

I also tried the dumping in the bucket of water test, but that yielded no result. It didn't start draining again.

It sounds like Budge Appliance Repair is on to something, but what can I do to fix it? Do I replace the timer?

As Rosser1 showed, this will not work, would need multiple buckets of water poured in to make it start draining/spinning again.

There is usually quite a large difference between empty/full on the pressure switches, as the 4"/high, 1"/low water remaining in tub when it stops shows.

Thanks all. This is very helpful. I'll try replacing the timer and hopefully that will be the end of it.
