I have a whirlpool duet sport and it is giving me fits. I have a bad bearing in the rear and according to the service manual, the basket is just supposed to slip out of the rear tub, right? Well I have been trying for two days to get it out. Are there any tricks to this? Help... Please

your shaft is seized to the bearing...at the risk of sounding like a smartass... get a bigger hammer!

That's what I was afraid of... I just didn't know if there was any retaining ring or something I was missing. Can the spider assemble at the back of the basket be separated from the basket? I guess I will let it soak with some PB Blaster. Thank you

you can remove the spider as long as one of the arms is broken in half. we tried to remove one and bent the basket all to %$##. its hard to pry against the basketwithout damaging it. cut 1 leg with a pneumatic cutoff or sawzall.

I was afraid of that. So the consensus is to the beat the hell out of it with a hammer until I get it to come out, than assess the damage?

You need a new basket w/ spder and rear half of the tub anyways, if the spider broke the basket might have ground into the front half of the tub, inspect it.

yes, some info: some have replaced the Bearing without using the "Tony Tool" Hello! They have never sold the bearing to the Domestic units because people usually do not have the correct bearing removers to pull them without damaging the plastic outer tub. If you look up a commercial Neptune say model number MAH14PDBAW (they are with pulling bearings on commercial equipment and have the correct tools), they do sell it there. The part numbers for the complete tub are the same, so the bearings are as well. The part number for it is 22003441. I believe it is actually the same part number as the bearing used on the old Maytag Dependable Care units. Kind of a hushed up secret. I know it will be safe here Our illustrious leader wrote on this some time ago: Yo Mac - the last link was the ticket - Thx. click on picture

Don't order the bearings referenced in RegUs's post. Need to verify if they are the correct ones or not? The post he is linking and referring to is for the Maytag Neptune Front loader, you are working on a Whirlpool Duet - totally different machine.

Thank you everyone for your help and advice. I believe i found the correct bearing after measuring it with a caliper, I'll let everyone know how it goes once it gets here. Does anyone know if the seal between that goes on the shaft is available?

Whirlpool only sells the complete rear tub shell that includes the bearings and seal already installed, so only way to get the seal and bearings separate is to measure and take to a bearing/seal shop and match up with what is available. I've never seen any post around here with anyone replacing just the seal and bearings in a duet with out changing the complete rear tub shell like we've seen with the Frigidaire and Magtag Neptunes yet.

You can most likely get the bearings from vxb.com but the seal will be tricky
