I can lay a marble or travertine floor. I can take apart and put together a laptop or desktop computer and it will run again. I can take apart a Toyota door and fix the window regulator. BUT you made this sound very scary. Can I do this? I don't like the sound of very fragile. It seems like every time I clean the inside of the refrigerator some stray plastic piece falls off from some where. Just last week I found a small wheel laying in front of the fridge - who knows what that was or where it came from? Not to mention I don't know where the dispenser board is either. Is that behind the control panel on the front part of the display on the outside of the freezer ice cube dispenser etc? Last edited on Tue Feb 16th, 2010 02:09 am by allowingtoo |

you can do this! i think a putty knife is the best tool for the job. look under your touchpads front, bottom edge. this small gap is where you need to work in the knife. then push up and pry outward. touchpad will pop out at bottom and hinge out of top holders; 4 more screws to remove and there you are at your flapper door and solenoid ...i think you can, i think you can... BTW dispenser board is on the back of touchpad... You can do it. I didn't mean to make sound hard! I just wanted to make sure you didn't do what I did the first time I pulled one apart. Which was snap off the plastic retaining tabs on the back of the touchpad/board assembly. That is the only tricky part. I forgot to say to unplug the unit (best practice) unplug the door harness (works if needed) at the bottom hinge, or (at the least) make sure the door is open while you pull the board out so you don't trigger the water and spray yourself! It will only take 10-15 minutes at worst. If you can handle a screwdriver you can do this too. Alot of learning to fix those things is taking the plunge to try it. Just take it carefully and fix your fridge. You can do it!

Still haven't bitten the bullet yet but I need to. One more question. Here's the picture of the front of the unit. Is this the part where I'm supposed to pry? Or are there any more picture pages on the web you can point me to? Attachment: fridge.jpg (Downloaded 62 times) Last edited on Wed Mar 17th, 2010 12:07 pm by allowingtoo |

move in about 1 1/2" from either arrow and insert your putty knife in the gap between the dispenser and the user interface. push up and pry out at the same time

Well that was easy. Those tabs were just where you said they would be. I have pictures where I took it apart. Will post them later. Last edited on Tue May 11th, 2010 08:43 pm by allowingtoo |

What did you replace? The solenoid? Or just the flap?

The solenoid. I can reach up and push the door closed when it would not close before - but it will not close on its own. The solenoid I removed was all rusted out. The flapper looked OK.

The solenoid isn't getting voltage, it was rusted up from disuse. I don't have the tech sheet on your fridge. Could you fax it me or post it here? My fax: 866-315-4504. Need to see who's supposed to power that bad boy.

You should find the "mini manual" behind the toe grill, taped under the cabinet. RHS. Look carefully with a flashlight.

Was there a spring attached to the hinge mechanism that returns it?

Sorry. Nothing. Front or back. Took all the panels off. There is a glue spot behind the toe kick front right where something "might" used to have been glued there but no longer.

Spring. Spring. Now that you mention it.......I don't think so. I'll have to go back and look at my pictures to make sure. Was there a spring involved?

May not need for this repair because it sounds like you're missing the door spring (nice catch, Drew!) but one day, probably not too far away, you will.
