Hello All, My fridge (freezer is fine) was not cooling properly so I inspected my coils in the freezer and found them frozen solid. I advanced the timer till it clicked and everything shut down, and the heating element got hot and thawed the coils. I assume it is a bad timer, but I also see they list a circuit board for my model as well. I have ordered the timer, but how would I tell if it is really the timer or the circuit board that is bad? Where is this "L" shapped circuit board located in my fridge. Since the deforster is doing its job, it has to be one of these controls? Could I get lucky and it was a freak occurrence or does one of these controls have to be bad? Thank you in advance! 2002 Model: PSD2450GRW

Thank you my friend, the timer should be here on Monday. I enjoy working with my hands, and have a backround in automotive, so I know how to follow a flow chat. This repair has me wanting to study more about this business, I plan to spend some time here. Are there any good schools online or other refference information I could study to understand this business better? -SQE P.S. Will the coils freeze back up over the weekend.... or does it take a number of days to get back that rock soild status? Last edited on Fri Jan 29th, 2010 10:04 pm by Squeaky Clean |

Ok.....the new timer shows up today and install it and I advance it till it clicks, now the defroster element is not getting hot? (first thing I checked before I ordered the timer) I then install the old timer and again element is not getting hot? I suppose I need to snip the wires and see if I have power to the element.....if I have power, I guess I need a new element. what if I dont have any power, then where do I look......I assume it would be a direct path from the timer, so just wiring? - Squeeks Last edited on Wed Feb 3rd, 2010 02:38 am by Squeaky Clean |

Defrost Thermostat (Bi-metal Switch), on the Evaporator Coil, must be cold to be "closed" in order for the Defrost Heater to work. ![]()

I checked the voltage to the defroster and I do have voltage, so I by-past the limiter and the element fires up....so I guess the limiter is stuck open. I looked at the parts over in the sears catalog, and it shows they only sell a new element, limiter, and harness as a package. Would a local parts house have just the limiter? Have you ever seen one go bad?

Is the Defrost Thermsostat clipped onto the Evaporator Coils ? Is it cold (frosted) ? Yes, they do go bad, and could be replaced with a separate, generic, Thermsostat, if it has the same ratings... It should have the temperatures on the Thermsostat. Something like L43-15, ect ... This "Thermostat" was frosted a little, but it was attached higher on the evaporator were there was less frost. I stuck the unit in a bucket of ice cubes for a half hour and its still open. I guess I will try to match one up. Thank you! I guess it was not the timer after all, this thermostat/ limiter must have been acting up intermittently not allowing the heating element to do its job. Well how did I do on my first repair??

the Thermsostat may need to be colder than +15F ... (edited previous temperatures) put it in the freezer for a while ... (no water)
