I need to replace my disposal and I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions on brands or models or horsepower. I'm seeing them from 75 to 300 bucks. Is there any benefit in buying a higher end model with bigger HP? I have a septic system and a fairly large family with 5 kids. Thanks for any input! Dave

The one I would choose distinctly resembles a trash can and is placed anywhere but your sink, but ..... that's just me. Especially using a septic system, you wouldn't think that's a good place to store foodwaste

I agree with Kdog however I would go with Insinkerator...readily available at most stores, inexpensive, probably last just as long as the higher end models....get a disposal tool while your at it.

With septic, I'd prefer trash can/compost pile over putting foodstuffs down the drain, but if you feel you need a disposer, you might want to think about a septic specific model with enzyme injection (like an In-Sink-Erator disposer with BioCharge).

Thanks for the replies guys. We don't put too much down the disposal. From what I understand this is the top rated Consumer Reports model. Anyone have any experience with them? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000DZGN7Q/ref=s9_simp_gw_s0_p60_t1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_r=1BABGE7F5JYP2AC1TN8N&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938811&pf_rd_i=507846

Pay the extra bucks and get one with a stainless cutter plate.
