Okay... got two thermometers and the temps in the cooler and freezer seem to be normal now. No more freezing everything! Ice maker is working fine too. Woo hoo! I removed the water filter to see if it was frozen again and honestly it didn't look like it to me but it didn't seem to have much water in it when I removed it soooo.... I ordered a new water filter and will install that as soon as it arrives. And I'll test the water line as suggested this weekend. Just too tired to get on the floor with a flashlight when I get home from work. Thanks again guys! Will update as soon as I do the above.

*sigh* Back here again guys. Now the water dispenser seems to be on the fritz. It will quit working and then start working again. It's now in the quit working mode. Any ideas what that might be?

What is the temp at the bottom of the fresh food side, I think there is a chiller tank near the bottom, rear,....It could be cold enough to turn the water to slush and not letting the water flow..... how is the ice maker operating, recent harvests??

water is working this morning now. Ice maker is working just fine and hasn't shown this intermittent tendency to work and then not work like the water dispenser has. I'll move the temp gauge to the bottom of the refrigerator side and check that. Stay tuned.... And thanks again for your help with this! hmmm.. if I remember right, I took off the top light cover first and then just worked my way in to getting the parts off.

thanks Shawnna, guess I need to start with unscrewing the stuff on the ceiling of the fridge. I have had lots of trouble with GE appliances and customer service and won't be buying them again. If you have trouble with the water and ice dispensers not working, check the wiring connection just under the freezer door. Ours became a bit wet and corroded and we had to fix the wiring.

I will definitely never by GE appliances again..... This has been a huge headache. Every day I get up and wonder if the damn water dispenser will work (it has been working consistently lately). Good luck with your repair.

After you replace your water filter, you need to run a gallon or two of water into an icecream pail to bleed any air bubbles introduced with the new filter - once the air is out, dispenser will work consistently
