Had a friend of mine this morning begging for help with his Whirlpool top filter dryer that wasn't heating. Upon arrival his wife handed me a small jumper wire and asked me to bypass her thermal cutout on her element....when I asked why she would ever want to do that she described that an Electrician had told her that was an easy fix that didn't cost any money and that she had done that with the last 4 dryers that she has owned. The only reason she hadn't done her current dryer is she didn't know where is was and would like me to do it for her. Of couse I told her absolutely not and explained to her the reason for the part and the extreme risk she had been taking all these years. She understood and thanked me........last thing she said was " the electrician told me not to tell anyone what he said"

Safety devices are put in place to protect us !!!

i ran into a performa dryer that someone had bypassed the thermal fuse. the dryer started to catch fire, fortunately someone caught it quickly and turned it off.

As an electrician I must take the opportunity to assert that I would not do or recommend that.

I can't say I have integrity more than anyone, it's for safety, and for my anal retentiveness about going by the book, and some sort of OCD tendency that makes me want things to be together properly.
