Good morning. I have a Kenmore ColdSpot 106.50269993. I noticed that the top of the freezer (where the ice maker is) is not as cold as the bottom...stuff on the bottom is still frozen...I don't have the ice maker connected so I don't know if ice would stay frozen on the top. The beer section of the refrigerator is not cool, however...I would say probably about 55 degrees judging by the English pub-like temperature of my Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Don't get me wrong...I'll drink it! But it might be a hassle when my Coors Light drinking friends come over and they *need* the beer to be cold so they don't recognize exactly what they are drinking. (Yes, I am a beer snob....sorry!) And oh, yeah...I guess the milk doesn't taste that great, either Anyway, I removed the panel that exposes the evaporator coils, expecting to see it covered with frost. Nope. The defrost system appears to be working just fine. When I powered up again, I heard the compressor kick in....but the fan that sits on top of the condensor coils does not operate. It should kick on, right? Since the beer section is getting some, but not enough, cooling, could it be a circulation problem? The same can be said for the top of the freezer, right? The fan points up. I will tell you in advance that I don't own an ohmeter. Any help would be appreciated! Last edited on Sat Nov 7th, 2009 02:10 pm by jazzyj |

Indeed it should. That's the condenser fan motor. The compressor will be damaged if you run it like this for very long. You'll need to replace the condenser fan motor. You can still run the refrigerator while you're waiting for the new condenser fan motor to come in-- just remove the compressor service panel and set up a portable fan back there to blow on the condenser coils.

Sorry, I meant the fan that sits on top of the EVAPORATOR COILS! (Not the condensor coils) My mistake. This is the fan that isn't turning on.

Once again, this forum has saved me hundreds of dollars! I replaced the evaporator fan, and now everything is working like a charm! I have now fixed about five appliances over the past three years with the help here. That's many service calls, many over-priced parts, and lots of aggravation all avoided. Not to mention the personal satisfaction of doing it myself. I suddenly feel....competent. THANK YOU! Last edited on Mon Nov 16th, 2009 04:59 pm by jazzyj |
