Everything appears to work OK for 6-9 minutes then it stops and flashes the "Clean" Light.  We have checked the filter and cleaned it and the float seems to work OK.  That's it for the customer manual advice. Of course it is just out of warranty!!

UPDATE!
8 flashes followed by 1 flash.  It ran for around 13 minutes. (I timed it not my wife.)
Anybody any ideas?

Thanks, working my way through the list at present. How much play should there be in the lower sprayer arm?
KitchenAid don't seem to be made very well now.

Code 8-1 Low Water, etc ...

What's the Water level ?     just touching the Heater Element ?

may be weak Water Inlet Valve, or clogged screen.

How do I get it to fill with the door open? Is there an override or some trick I do not know?
Thanks.

Actually, on this model, water level should be a about a finger width below the heating element.

FINAL RESULT.
Checked water supply as recommended by RegUS_PatOff and found little or no water in the bottom. Pulled the machine and thereby found the problem. The stainless braided water hose had got wedged between the wall and the hardwood floor and was almost flat. Pulled the inlet valve and cleaned a little grit out of the screen. Had to go to the local hardware store and get a new hose. Refitted same and installed everything back in and the machine is just finishing a full wash cycle.
MANY THANKS to all.
